Yeah, but how many involved drinking or being a squid? Sporty was correct about the statistics improving dramatically when you take those factors out.
No my math was shitty apparently. Actually when you take those factors out motorcycling is even more dangerous.

Are you secretly a squid? I bet the Dunning-Kruger effect applies here.

No, I always wear my gear. And yea it definitely applies. Track day was eye opening WRT how far I have to go skillwise.

Apparently indeed.

Oh please. Motorcycles are 7x more fatal than cars overall. Half of those crashes are due to alcohol... I never drink and ride... down to 3.5x. Shitty/no helmets increase fatality risk by 37%... my helmet is good... down to 2.5x. Night time riding is also obviously more dangerous... I never do that either. There are cars where the fatality rates are 3-4x the average... the Z was one of them. I'm sure Miatas are well above the average rate as well. And I have ridden... and crashed... and am still here and OK. So yea, when you actually parse the data (rather than go off emotion as you have been MCM) motorcycle riding is not that dangerous unless you're an idiot. Obviously it's more dangerous than a car but that 7x shit requires context

Oops. Reality is that the initial factor is actually 27x. Little miss there. You also assume zero correlation between non-helmeted and DUI drivers. Good one too.

But I apologize because in your specific case, giving some thought to it, it may be true. What with getting power off oversteer in everyday situations yeah, you may be safer on the bike! Who knows?

Sporty you don't really think that's how the math works do you?

I originally read that post as not really serious.

Serious about a new MINI spending a "lot of time in the shop". Serious about motorcycle riding being only slightly more dangerous than driving. Serious about M3/5 engines blowing up for everybody. Serious about me "being emotional".

On that last one, yeah I am pissed that at absolutely every mention of BMW/MINI on any thread for any reason the same inane non-factual BS returns every goddam time.

Very serious.

You are emotional- you're pissed off about someone talking about a brand on a message board.

Meanwhile, you are a calculating (sorta) completely rational person engaged in a pages long discussion on the same board for reasons other than emotions. Sporty, I know few people with the self-delusion capability that you show.

"I know you are but what am I???" LOL. Yes, there are plenty of reasons besides emotions that people go on message boards.

Civic Si. Low running costs and good residuals. Passes the Excel spreadsheet smell test.

A friend of mine has a Civic and I rode in it this past weekend.  It's pretty sporty and seems to drive well.  I would seriously consider it.

I've always been partial toward Volvo but I'm not sure it's the best car for you at this time.

Whatever you pick, you will have a great time doing it.  Being able to pick out the car you want is really fun, especially when you're used to buying cars you don't really want by necessity.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!

I agree. Just sick of the constant baseless "it's gonna blow" sporty fearmongering. Like I said above, I think the Volvo rocks for Kevin.

A buddy of mine got a 2005 3-series with a stick shift as an extra fun car.  He let me drive it.  Fucking car is so much fun to drive.  I had forgotten how much fun a stick shift can be.  Maybe something like that could work for Kevin.

Winter is more likely to make me wanna kill people. Especially trying to commute while it's snowing. My 50 minute commute stretches to almost 2 hours when that's the case (like this morning)

Hah.

For real though I vote keep the Sonic and beef up savings. It's a good car and not even close to old.

X2? A-Class, CLA? GLA?

I'm more of a Mini and MB type of person. I don't like the GLA.

E90's are so taxing to drive to me. The car feels heavy and slow to use.

CALL_911

If I could go back in time when I got the GTI I think I would've gone for an older E90. Like an 07-08 328i 6MT.

Hmm... I was expecting to see way more hatchbacks on the list.  Really was expecting to see a Fiat abarth to select.

On your list I would take the Civic SI... and if it gets damaged from parking lot abuse it might actually start to look better over time

The Abarth 500 is a riot to drive but

- It has shit resale

- it's made poorly

- is too small

So much of your diverse list depends on how you like the individual cars. The only one that I'd caution against strongly is the NX hybrid — that RAV4 engine feels wheezy and lame in the NX, totally out of place. The infotainment is also a mess. I like the driving dynamics otherwise, but turbo all the way.
