Are you sure?

Not even close.

Today, VAN.  Tomorrow, LAND.  Monday, TRUK.

I want to keep Dakota. It is so underappreciated as a truck. Perfect size, rack and pinion steering, good ride, quiet enough, ez to maintain tractor engine, nice shifter, and not terribly unreliable.

Q... if I had Dakota, and a Grand Caravan 3.3, which one would tow which on a car dolly?

The Dakota.

Caravan transmissions aren't very tough.

Yes, but a Grande Caravan is rated to tow 3800#, while Dakota is rated for 2000#.
Of course, Dakota's chassis can tow over 5000, but they rate the 4 cyl for 2000 because reasons.

Growing up, my friends mom had a Grand Caravan.  I thought it was cool because of power sliding doors.

The mom hated it because it went through three transmissions, and only two were covered by Dodge.

Yeah, every Caravan that I know of died with its transmission. But, I can be extra good about changing the fluid/filter, and add an extra cooler, right?

Why did the transmissions fail?

Do you think you can stuff a Fedders window box unit down there?

Lots of stupid electric solenoid failures, and neglect/abuse.

Fast Fax: The Caravan's stock transmission cooler is integrated into the AC condenser as a single unit.

Plan v77.1a:

-Sell GMC
-Trade Fiesta for a late model Chrysler minivan with stow-n-go seats. Any engine except the 4.0. The old 3.3/3.8 is fine, and the 3.6 Pentastar is acceptable. At least I know how to work on it. VW Routan is a non starter, because the middle row doesn't stow-n-go.
-Sell Dakota
-Keep Ranger and have fun with it

You really should buy an old garage/small warehouse, build a home inside, and have a few bays for TRUK/VAN/LAND

Yeah, no shit. I'd love to live in a warehouse. I could park a camper in there and the rest could be garage space.

I'm starting to lean towards a 2003-ish Honda Odyssey. Thanks to scary transmission problems, they are pretty cheap. 240 HP Honda V6, fold flat rear seat. Just remove the second row for instant cargo/camping VAN. I can probably take care of the transmission well enough.

Seems to be lots of room with the passenger seat folded down; although I agree, it's a colossal chunk of crap.

Just noticed in that picture, the HHR has The Club™️ installed.

Proof that whoever owns it is chemically unbalanced.

I've always wanted a The Club™, but I've rarely had anything that someone would want to steal, like an HHR.

I really want to rebuild Dakota's rear end with 4.56:1 gears. 60 MPH in 5th would be at a reasonable 2500 RPM, and downshifting to 4th would put it right at 3200 RPM, which is peak torque. This is for towing the full 8000 pounds that the same chassis with a V8 is rated for.

Strange, the new 5th gear would be almost exactly like the current 4th gear. 🤔👍
