I don't want to hear shit about it not having a rotary... a 2900lb, 330HP NA 4 door RWD manual car for ~$20K (I doubt one can find a $1K RX-8 easily) is something to be celebrated

This is turnkey with all parts...............

Same engine family as the one in my Alfa.

Nice setup!

This is a slightly more sophisticated version of what they do on Roadkill. Burnout contest?  ;)

I've always liked the RX-8 but at that price I would much rather have a used low mileage Corvette.

Almost $20k for a beat to hell RX-8...?

If I'm spending $20k on a project car, I'd rather do an exocet.  Make something wild.

Exocet is hideous :(

$20K for this is very reasonable. S2Ks go for that much with 100 less HP and 2 less seats (but no less weight :mask: )

But there's no rotary. Plus, $20k is about $15k too much.

GM's ubiquitous 3.6L is N/A tops, esp. in the Camaro, but yeah, this is something you don't do. You gonna take this much time and effort you're gonna Do It Right:

Both of these statements are true.

I have a hard time comparing it to an S2000 though.  And S2000 is a functioning, OEM car.  This will undoubtedly have issues (the guy in the thread had his AC die on the way home and it sounds like it's still running a really janky piggyback ECU kind of setup).  If everything is totally solid though, yeah, it's a lot of car for the money.

And yes, the Exocet is ugly.  I'm trying to pick a color combo that would at least not look horrible.  Need to play around in photoshop a bit.

If you want "four seats", then RX-8 isn't bad. But yeah, Corvette.

LFX is a bolt in affair.... LSx requires banging out some frame rails. No thanks

I have always prefered 6 cylinders to 8 as well. Less power, so what. 330HP in 2800lb is ample.

You can plop a turbo on an rx8 and get 300whp for less than $5k... Why spend 4x more for generic V6

Stock RENESIS barely run and you want to put a turbo on one? :wtf:

Again what is generic about a manual RWD 4 door 4 seater with 330+ N/A HP that weighs 2900 or so lbs? If that's generic show me the other ones

There are plenty of low boost turbo and supercharged renesis engines out there... But please tell me all about how terrible the engine is

You can get a ~300 hp V6 from Ford, GM, Toyota, chrysler, Honda, Kia, ect... That's about as generic as it gets

There are also a disproportionate number of blown bone stock RENESIS motors out there. It's not a good engine

With RWD, 4 doors, 4 seats, a manual transmission and a 2900lb curb weight for $20K? Post some links

Well there is always a Camaro, Mustang or Challenger/Charger if one wants 4 seats, but a relatively lightweight RWD car with a V8? Seems like a lot of work (and potential headache) when someone could just get a Vette. Nonetheless, much respect to those who take on these kind of projects.

If this thing is reliable, it could be a 1 car solution, which is not the case with a Corvette. I'd almost trust this more than an equally old German performance car too

Caprice wagon with a T56 swap = Corvette wagon ... kind of.

Sans engine, I'd say an RX8 is among the most reliable cars made... It's fairly simple and mostly bulletproof

Any car without an engine is gonna be "reliable" because it doesn't fuckin' move. lol

Ya. The 159 had GM derived gasoline engines. It was also built on a new joint premium platform for Fiat/GM.

Thank goodness they switched to Ferrari based engines for their Giulia and Quadrifoglio.
