Ferrari Confirms Working On Meatier V12, It Will Be Their Most Powerful Engine Ever

You cannot be one of the best in the world at something by simply resting on your laurels, and Ferrari knows this all too well.

As a result, after presenting the sensational 812 Competizione a few weeks ago, they have announced their intentions to launch an even more powerful V12 engine.

Briefly speaking on the topic to Autocar, the Prancing Horse's technical chief, Michael Leiters, said said that "we're working on that". Chief marketing officer, Enrico Galliera, added that they "didn't even think about" a track-only 812XX model of the supercar, but "we're thinking about something that will be visible in the future".

Now, about that meaty V12, there are quite a few worthy candidates that might get it. One of them could be the official successor of the LaFerrari hybrid hypercar that is supposedly a few years away. Another one could be a new flagship that might actually be developed with Ferrari's Le Mans know-how. We would not exclude a track-only variant of the 812 either, despite the Galliera's statement.

Until then, the naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 powering the 812 Competizione sits at the top of the company's food chain. It pumps out 818 HP (830 PS / 614 kW) at 9,250 rpm and 510 lb-ft (692 Nm) of torque at 7,000 rpm, and works in concert with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It rockets it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.85 seconds and up to a maximum speed of 211 mph (340 km/h).

The 812 Competizione is limited to 999 units for the Coupe and 599 for the A, and all of them are understood to have been sold out.

Naturally aspirated? I can't find mention of a turbo anywhere. This thing is going to sound amazing.

With those RPM numbers I assumed it was naturally aspirated. Sounds like an amazing engine, that should also have amazing sounds.

It still won't be as hot as the 1000 bhp Cosworth Valkyrie...
