A Diesel BMW M2? If It's Got A 583 HP Engine With Three Turbochargers, Why Not!

Say hello to what very might be the craziest BMW 2-Series on earth.

Residing in South Africa, this 2-Series may look like an M2 but it actually started out life as a 220d. The owner then equipped it with the exterior body panels of an M2 Competition before slotting in the tri-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six 'M50d' diesel that BMW first premiered roughly a decade ago.

As standard, this engine was capable of producing 375 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. However, the owner of this 2-Series has comprehensively it while installing a methanol injection kit and nitrous. The engine now churns out 583 hp and 789 lb-ft (1,070 Nm) of torque at the flywheel, meaning it is an absolute weapon.

Featured in this video from Cars.co.za, we learn that the car also sports a number of other parts from different BMW models. For example, it has the front brake calipers of an M5, the rear brake calipers of an M4, and the propshaft and differential from a 330d, while the driveshafts come from an M135i. The car is also rocking an Akrapovic exhaust.

The owner says that he is currently daily driving the car and has also developed different setups for it to suit hillclimbing, track driving, and drag racing. It all seems to run very well, although he does say that the engine has a habit of overheating a little bit, so he has fitted three water radiators with an external water cooler.
