It's a gentle transition to EVs and will sell well. Not very elegant under the skin but a very good marriage of innovation and parts bin: per Sandy Munro better than everything other than a Model Y.

Munro and his cronies spent weeks mocking that up.
Everyone knows that more components, more weight, and a more complex manufacturing process make for a better & more reliable product. Things started going downhill in the early 1900s when they began to use single castings for engine blocks. And we really hit the skids in the early 1950s, when they replaced windshield split-panes with curved glass.
