QuoteYeah, the 912 is a 4-banger 911.
No, it is a completely different car.
I know they look almost identical.

http://www.912registry.org/history.htm

Seems it was a 356 Based car with a 911 body pretty much.

http://www.answers.com/topic/porsche

" A cost-reduced model with the same body but 356-derived running gear (including its four-cylinder engine) was sold as the 912."
The 914 is what I was thinking of.

Porsche 928
These are cool, a bit funny lookinc but neat nonetheless. Quite cheap. 4.5L V8

Porsche 968
A bit better looking but probably not as quick. 3.0L inline 4.
Much newer too. The coupe versions like this one are hard to find, most are cabriolets.

But when it comes down to bang for the buck, the 944 turbo is probably your best choise.

I remember you saying you had about $12,000 to spend, so something like this would be perfect.

Only a few little problems, plus it has a new timing belt.

850CSi

My dad had one back in '91... a RED one.

He sold it because it was a money pit.

i'd stay away from all porsches...

You could say that about a lot of cars if she was turly driving them from 56.  The fact is that you cant base your opinion on one lady, and there are some Porsches that are known to be uber reliable.

If I had to choose one company that I'd have to drive cars from for the rest of my life, it would be Porsche.

I've heard nothing but good things about reliability, save for a few models.

Of course not every Porsche is so reliable, but nonetheless, there are tons of Porsches out there that have been deemed bulletproof.

Not going to argue with that at all. Porsches are the perfect everyday sports cars

Not likely, give me a RR Sport any day. Almost as much performance, more offroad capability, cheaper, and not sacrireligous (spelling?)

In this context, I would assume that is what he means. It could also mean that he has no quick way to get cash, like if he has a lot of money saved up but can't get to it without penalities or he has numerous possessions that are worth a lot that would take a while to sell (both cars and houses).
