0-60 has to be less than 4.5 seconds, but very impressive none-the-less.

I was thinking the same thing, but 450hp in a tiny hatch and only 4.5 isnt that impressive.

The curb weight was 3200 lb. And, I think stuffing a big V8 in a little hatchback is impressive engineering. The numbers are probably just conservative.

I sure hope so.  And I agree, stuffing a V8 is impressive.

3200 pounds?  Well, this should get similar acceleration to the Corvette, but I imagine a little slower (probably worse traction off the line, a less slippery design).  4.5 seems like a good estimate, though I imagine a hair quicker or two is easily attainable.

This is probably as fast as that HPA R32 turbo...

Not exactly. The HPA has about 100 more bhp and AWD.

"When a Volkswagen Golf can wipe the floor with a Ferrari Enzo, we take notice. Perhaps the phrase 'wipe the floor' is a little overzealous, but when Ferrari claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.3 seconds for its Enzo, and American VW/Audi tuning specialists HPA hit the same speed in 3.2 seconds in a Golf, we start to drool."

That is one incredibly awesome little car. It completely redefines the meaning hot hatch.

I can't find specs for the RS8, but I imagine it is faster than it.  The R32 has AWD and 130bhp more, whereas the RWD-only RS8 has 420bhp.  Traction is everything to 60.

Check MTs site, and search for the Focus.  They have an article on it versus a Lambo, so you'll probably find specs there.

Or at least it is when you are talking over 250-300 hp (below that AWD can actually be a hindrance).

I wouldn't say a hindrance.  It depends on the power/weight ratio.  A 5000 pound AWD car with 200bhp will be a lot slower than a 170bhp FWD car weighing only 3000 pounds.

It can be a hindrance, the A4 1.8t for example is slow in the 0-60 run because you need higher rpms to get boost but  Quattro AWD prevents the wheels from spinning resulting in the car bogging down to a lower rpm when you drop the clutch.

Yup, but if the A4 weighed less, it wouldn't be a hindrance, really.

4.4 seconds isn't bad, but a Caterham could kill it for far less.

Definitely, the RS8 is really pointless since it isn't a practical daily driver and there are numerous cars that will keep up with it in the straightline and kill it on the autocross parking lot.

NVM then. I thought (wrong) that it was close.

QuoteI imagine that V8 1-Series would feel a little too nose-heavy, though...
It probably would, and it sort of defeats the purpose of the BMW if it makes it lose its 50/50 weight distribution.

I imagine you're a little nose heavy, douche!

Anyway, it's a hatch.  They've got FWD Saab hatches (and sedans) with better weight distribution than RWD coupes, such as the G35 or GTO.

And the LS1 is not what's being put into the 1-Series, it's a HUGE BMW V8.
