Another stupid question...

Raza

I'm going home tomorrow, and I'm going to fire up the Boxster.

Question though.  Should I take the trickle charger off before I start it, should I start with the trickle charger on, or does it not matter?

Thanks, guys.

Does not matter.  I'd probably take it off though.

Does not matter at all.

Although, I would recommend unplugging it before you drive away.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Cool.

I'll just take it out then.

My dad bought one, and he's letting his car sit for 3 months.  The guys aat the auto parts store said he has to leave the key in the ignition in the on position for it to work correctly.

That sounds like bullshit to me.  You guys?

Wait, what?

Let the car sit, take the battery out and don't put it on the floor (shelf it.).  Put the battery back in at 3 months, if it doesn't work jump it or trickle charge it before you put it back.  Can be done with the battery out of the car.

Just follow the directions that came with the charger.  Just because the guy is behind the counter selling parts doesn't mean he knows what he is talking about.

Sounds like bullshit to you too?  I'm going to tell him to just plug it.  I mean, I didn't leave the key in the Porsche when I left it.

Wait a second, does it connect to the cigarette lighter?

I agree with John: just read the instructions!

I really don't think a trickle charger is necessary to store a car for 3 months.  Just disconnect the battery and you're fine for a while, I'm sure.  We stored a car once for 5 months and all we did was disconnect the red terminal and it fired right up on the first turn when we went to retrieve the vehicle.

And of course there is also the option of a deep-cycle or marine battery.

I can't read the instructions.  They're in Florida.

Yes, it does.

I can't read the instructions.? They're in Florida.

Then it would depend on whether or not the cigarette lighter is live when the ignition is off. Some cars do that, some don't.

And easy test could be to plug your cell phone charger into it and see if it works with the key off.

That is, next time you're in Florida...
