Quattroporte doesn't really play in this class.  It's hopelessly outgunned in a straight line by everything (though quicker than an M5 around Bedford West).

E63, no hesitation.  Wagon, please.

C&D recently tested the S6 at 5.4 from 0-60 and 13.8 through the 1/4 mile.

And while C&D didn't test the Quattroporte, MT did, and got similar results.  5.3 seconds 0-60 and the quarter mile at 13.7

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedan/112_0506_luxury_sedan_comparison/v8_engine.html

If the S6 is allowed to play, so should the equally fast (or so, depending on how you see it)  Quattroporte.

Interesting.  Funny though, that the S6 is over a second slower to 60 than the old RS6.

M5,  What can I say...I love the M5.

I'd take the Quattraporte over any of these.  Followed by an M5 with the 6spd.

2007 Honda S2000
OEM Hardtop, Rick's Ti Shift Knob, 17" Volk LE37ts coming soon...

BOO!!!  M5 with a 6-speed?  Come on, that's awful.  The 6-speed hampers its performance hugely.  It was meant to have the SMG.

The 6 speed doesn't hamper performance, it's the fact that you can't turn DSC off.

I voted M5, but picking from that and an E wagon might be the hardest decision I would ever make.  I need to get a well-paying job after college.

E55/E63 AMG Touring is the best weekend dad car ever.  Not only does it show your ex that you're successful, but it makes it look like you're family minded as well.  Then, as soon as she can't see you anymore, you light up the rear tires and swear the kids to secrecy.

The car to fool the wife while still married, however, is the WRX Wagon.

You have to wonder about Roy's relationship with his wife then.

Nice car, but not my cup of tea.

I didn't realize that when I sandwiched that Quattroporte in there, it was next to a CL500.  BMW 530i on the left (a great car that is partly influencing my M5 decision), Quattroporte in the middle and CL on the right.

Sub, will you add the motherfucking Quattroporte?  565's right; if the S6 is in here, the 4 door should be included as well.

Also, why would anyone buy the M5 6 speed?  Why?

There's an option for that for the poll maker to allow you to change vote (I always put that on mine), but I think if he can't add that now, he can wipe the votes clean and we can start over.

It's got 3 pedals.

Raza

Quote from: Raghavan on May 21, 2007, 09:19:57 AM
It's got 3 pedals.

This is why I wouldn't want an M5:

SMG Transmission:
I don't believe they're really useful on a day to day basis.  Contrary to many beliefs, they offer no more involvement than a manumatic transmission, and manumatics have come a long way since their inception and are quite fast.  So you give up a little shift speed and you get a transmission that is much better at doing more mundane things like driving around town.

Maserati Quattroporte:
The fact that this non-super-sedan really did beat the M5 around a track despite being down two cylinders and 100 horsepower, is really embarrassing for the M5.  If you take Evo's Knowledge Track Times section and you see how far down the M5 is, you'll see that it really doesn't have a whole lot going for it other than massive power and a badge.

DSC:
I don't like SMG transmissions.  I prefer manuals.  But I'd gladly give up my third pedal for the ability to turn off the safety net of a full on stability program.  Even Mercedes allows it to relax enough for you to get into trouble, but I couldn't imagine driving a car like this without the ability to control my own fate.  I've said it over and over again that I don't trust traction control and stability programs as anything other than an educational aide.

So, the M5 is out for me on those three grounds.  Now, stating that the Quattroporte is better is a little hypocritical because of its DuoSelect, I see that, but if I have to give up the feeling of rowing my own gears, I want to be in a beautiful car with an M5 forever stuck in my rearview mirror.
