The frontrunner currently is....a Mazda 5
Does this thing have a T belt or chain? (2.3 DOHC)
Anyone own one or knows someone who does?
My wife likes its size, abilty to seat 6 in a pinch,MPG,and price.

Wish Nissan made somthing like this, but you cant have everything in life huh?
Then again,I could seek out a low mileage 1990 Axcess.....
I do drive a Honda (when im mowing my lawn).

TheIntrepid

Nissan made the Prairie, and the Multi. I'm sure you want a Multi, don't you?

2004 Chrysler Intrepid R/T Clone - Titanium Graphite [3.5L V6 - 250hp]
1996 BMW 325i Convertible - Brilliant Black [2.5L I6 - 189hp]

Thats a Stanza Wagon. At least thats what they were called here).I think the Axxsess took its place but it flopped here (one year car)

Just a little humor though..Wifes getting a modern equivalent!

Are you shopping the Kia Rondo as well?

Couldnt put my wife in a Kia without losing sleep at night.
Im not impressed at all by any Korean cars when they get a few years on them.I see plenty here and there at the dealership as a reference.

Mazda is building some very nice vehicles.  Just call a dealer's service department and ask if it has a belt or chain.

Zcarnut

Dont you have a Mazda 3 John?
Same engine isnt it?

I'm almost positive it's a chain.

See the VVT bit on this:

The 5 is a sweet ride. It reminds me of my family's old Mitsubishi Expo Sport, which was a really great car except for the suicidal manual transmission.
Kia EV6 GT-Line / MX-5 RF 6MT

I'm 99% positive it has a chain, my speed6 had one for sure(was one thing i liked about it), i believe the 2 are related.

Its actually getting pretty hard to find a t-belt motor now(thank god).

The 5 is a nice little vehicle(hell the whole mazda line is nice), are you looking at the auto or stick?

Either way nice and fun little people mover.

As for a nissan i imagine you found the 5 door versa way to small.

Zcarnut

Yeah I like the Versa, but the 6 passenger seating, small size, and sliding doors are all things she likes. She also wants a slushbox  :(
The new Sentra is a waste of money IMO after looking at a Versa, and the a 2.5S Altima would run me another $1500 over this 5 (and its not a van).
I called a Mazda dealer yesterday. They offered invoice (about $18,300) on a base auto with a few options like the pearl white paint, mats, some sort of cargo mat...etc These things have a impressive standard feature list, and personally I dont see any other options on it she WOULD want.
Sticker is $19,400 or around there.
Taking her up to drive it today.

Too bad you don't get the new Ford Europe vans.
I guess on the American market the Mazda 5 is a damn good offer. Oh, and it looks good! Many guys here on carspin probably wish they were your wife now!  :P :partyon:

I thought we established only trep swung that way

Whatever. As long as shes happy,I get a chance to be happy!
But I suspect she may have one of these by the end of the year.

5s are great cars, if I were to get a mini van, that'd be my #1 choice.  They handle pretty well for what they are and they carry plenty enough for most families.  They can definately seat 6 more comfortably than any 7 passenger SUV I've seen.

Ever tried and sit in the last seat of a 7 passenger SUV?  You can't!  You'd have to chop off your legs to comfortably sit in that.. but on a 5, you can actually sit in the last row!
