Executive summary: Continental is beating the CT6 with an inferior chassis and less incentives. Why? Better name + better marketing. JdN and his marketing dude need to go like yesterday

Which makes it appropriately priced for an American luxury sedan

I'd bet it's that much more profitable for Ford too :)

It's not like it's outselling it by a huge margin.  They're both selling like garbage for the most part

I walked down the block to Cadillac's smug, self-(un)aware art house/"creativity lounge"/ coffee bar/pop up store here in SoHo thinking that, as most showrooms branded and containing cars do, it contained people who...knew about cars.  Nothing - the few people there staffed by Cadillac weren't actually familiar with the vehicles themselves; "what kind of engine does it have" was the kind of question that stumped the Supreme-wearing, Yeezy worshiping "brand ambassador", but he was happy to put me in contact with a "sales experience" manager who happened to be out to lunch (literally and metaphorically, I'm sure) at the time.  This left me to fend for myself with the CT6, CTS and XTS they had to display.

And doesn't that sum it up perfectly?  Cadillac spends so much time trying to be cool that they miss the mark entirely and end up bringing the kind of people into the fold who a.) don't care about cars and b.) don't have the money to buy them.  If you spent a months salary on some overpriced Rick Owens garbage, I wish you the best.  Now please tell me about options packages available on the V6 models.  Oh, you don't know what engine this model has?  Looking at the nomenclature on the boot lid doesn't work for you, huh?

It's a replacement as the brand's full-size flagship model, but it's not a rename (like Zephyr to MKZ).  It's a completely new car built on a different platform from the MKS.  MKS was essentially a lux'ed out Taurus (built on the D3 platform).  Continental is on a stretched version of the CD4 platform that underpins the latest Fusion and MKZ.

It kind of reminds me of the Infiniti M45.

Hmm, apparently this was my reaction to it when I first saw it:

Looking forward to getting one of these next time I call an Uber.

The old concept looks like the original Nissan M45, which looked old when it was new (because it was old).

It's actually not that bad.

Definitely aping the Bentley Continental more than a little bit. Chrysler 300 owners have sad. But yea this is the kind of car meant to make driving as un-drivey as possible.
