I'm not sure what's more impressive about that game. The game itself, the fact that it has the SVT Contour, or how long it's been delayed.
The Contour keeps breaking and they have to spend time fixing it. It's a very realistic simulation.

It most likely blows up its engine on high speed long right hand sweepers (think Tsukuba) thanks to fail oil pick up design leading to oil stavation.

Yeah, I think I'd actually prefer more tracks added than a larger roster of cars. GT4 had plenty of different cars to choose from. All they really need to do is update the roster to include newer generations of the existing cars and some of the newest performance cars that weren't around when GT4 came out and that would be more than enough. The addition of Ferrari is obviously great as well.
If only car manufacturers would stop making new cars, then Polyphony could catch up and then ship GT5!

Well, they have to re-do each and every car even if nothing has changed. GT5 has to have PS3 graphics, not PS2 graphics from GT4. It's all about the polygons. Perfection takes time.

Apparently Sony has included GT5 as one of their games that will feature "3D". I wonder if this will alter the wait time, or if this is already part of the plan as to why it will be released when I'm 70 years old.

Never. The game doesn't exist, it's a marketing ploy to get people to buy the PS3 over the XBOX.
Meanwhile, Forza 3 is out there already doing everything GT5 will do, except for having nice bonnet reflections and twelve versions of the Mitsubishi FTO. It really is a great game.
GT5 will give me plenty of opportunities to drive totally obscure Japanese cars such as the Mitsubishi Debonair AMG.

Yeah, I voted for April. I'm buying a PS3 this winter, GT5 or not, because there are other PS games that I want to play now.

He's very fast. I did a mountain run with him, and while he knew the roads and I didn't, I botched the first corner (came out in 4th when I should have been in 2nd, didn't realize how severe the corners would be) and didn't see him until we reached the top. He routinely tops his class in autocrosses and races on a Lemons team. He used to race formula cars for his SAE club at school (good race team too, even better than Penn State's). He's probably got more race experience than anyone here save ChrisV.
Yeah, I probably couldn't beat him unless I had a home-road advantage.

60 days! But I haven't had any problems at all. The one thing I hate about the PS3 is this: If you play your console through the HDMI cord and take the game to another TV that only has RCA plugs the game won't work. Here's the catch, you have to switch the PS3 back to RCA BEFORE you transfer it to another TV. I learned this the hard way when I got to my cabin last month. I actaully had to call my boy at home and talked through the process since I couldn't see anything on the screen. But I'm very happy with the unit.
I'll probably try to find a 60 GB model. I won't have to worry about the HDMI, I don't have any 1080p tv's or anything (I don't watch tv/movies or play videogames enough to justify a more expensive tv. Besides, that's a couple hundred less to spend on cars! :lol: )
After looking at prices, I'll go for whatever model I can get. The 60 GB models are super expensive; more than a new 250 GB one costs. It would just be smarter to buy whatever PS3 I want and just keep my PS2 plugged in to play those games.

You just have to hold the power button down until you hear two beeps. After that, the video has been reset and you're good to go. :ohyeah:

a wheel and pedal set really dont work too well without a decent mounting option
You don't need a whole play seat, and home made rigs work just as well.
Many people get seats from wrecked car and use wood frames.

I plan on getting a PS3 & GT5 (I might actually see if they come bundled for a good price), and then hold off on the wheel for a little bit. The seat is very iffy.

We already have that feature in GT5P though, albeit using the right analog stick. I don't use cockpit view for serious racing anyways though. I use hood/roof cam.
And yes a track creator/editor has been highly likely since the beginning.

I haven't used the G27, but I've used the G25 and the Fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel (Which I own). The Logitect felt like a toy compared to the Fanatec. It felt plasticy, had rubbery shifter, and weak force feedback w/larger deadzones. I chose the Fanatec because it felt more solid and every once and a while Fanatec release firmware updates. Also the brake pedal felt more progressive and the clutch had better feel. The only downside to the turbo S besides the price (compared to the G25) was there aren't paddles on the back of the wheel. Just rubber trigger type things.
I've read good things about the G27. I believe Logitec has built a higher quality/better feeling wheel over the G25. The G27 and Fanatec Turbo S/GT3 RS wheels are the best on the market right now.

Just going on pictures, I'm interested in the Logitech (I think my buddy has a G25) because of the paddles. But once I get the wheel, how do you guys actually set it up? That was the main barrier for me...my game room has a coffee table and two sofas, not a seat with an chest high table.
How realistic do you want your seating position to be? You could get a Rennsport Wheel Stand if you aren't too anal about it.

Compared with the Turbo S, I thought the G27's wheel felt better. I haven't actually used the G27 so I can't comment on the force feedback though. The pedals are far better than the standard Turbo S pedals but not as good as the Clubsport pedals, and I thought the shifter for the G27 is nicer but a lot of people like the Turbo S shifter.
The GT3RS does have Alcantara but the shifter is extra and I got the G27 for $200...

It doesn't work that way sadly. You select what type of "track piece" you want for a certain section and it randomly makes a piece of track for that section. Unless I read it wrong... We can have Carspin track days too though. 32 player lobbies. (16 drivers and 16 spectators.) You can also run B-spec mode from your computer, which will make it easier to do endurance races and maybe even a GT5 fantasy league.

They're going to have downloadable content. Tracks and cars I am very sure. Apparently there is an install option for the game itself to speed up loading times, so I'm guessing the content on the blu-ray isn't disc exclusive to its operation. Probably dumping tracks on to the hard drive to speed up load times.
There are literally 40 Skylines, nearly 20 S2K's and numerous variants of the Honda Civic. What makes me mad, they have the 91',92',93',94' and 95' model year of the EG6 Civic Si, and they're counted as separate models.
American and European cars were generally ignored, and there aren't many new cars in the game.
No Fiesta, no Cadillac CTS-V (neither generation!), No Abarth, no American cars in general (aside from the Obvious Corvette and Camaro)
Then they have the most backhanded additions into the game EX:
New Fiat 500, but the smallest motor (1.2L) and no Abarth; Taurus SHO, but the comparatively worthless V8 SHO, and a plethora of seemingly worthless cars.
Then you have all sorts of redundant models:

Where have you guys been? All gt4 cars are in the game. ATM there are only ~250 new cars for the release but more will be added via doc. The new cars take a month a piece to model.

I thought GT5 had full interiors for all the cars?
Not the gt4 cars. It takes a month to model car+interior. Having that for all cars would have taken twice as long.

The modeling progress from Forza 2 to 3 was nowhere near as long and all the cars had full interiors......visual mods, ect.
This is just lame.
Forza models aren't even as good as the prologue models.

So what's the difference between a "premium" car and a "standard" car? Do you have to pay extra for some special edition of the game to get the "premium" cars? If so, that kind of sucks, because it seems like most of the new additions are designated as "premium" (like pretty much all of the Ferraris).

Premium cars are the ones modeled after GT4 came out.

Standard car = Old as ever GT4 models.

It's ridiculous. If you lift throttle mid corner = lift off oversteer. Any sort of power = power oversteer. The second the rear end steps out more than just an inch, it's over. It's impossible to recover from.

I tried to mess with the suspension to fix it, but have never been completely successful. Mine is a bit more tame, but you still have to be a smooth driver or you'll be in the wall.
Are you talking GT5P? Try adding some rear camber or lowering the front end yo.
Replay modes always looks better than in-game. I'm looking forward to see what it plays like, but I'm not holding out hope that it's going to look that good.
I was talking about GT4. I think I've tried messing with shock bound/rebound in front and rear, spring rates, camber, lowering, and downforce.
I'm on the fence about GT5. I would have to buy a PS3 and the game just to play, plus I will probably want a wheel as well. That's a lot of money for an updated GT4, especially since I have other things on my to-buy list. I was set to do it until all these reports that it's not as awesome as was promised.

It is
not and updated GT4. The only similarity is the car models (Which are better than in GT4). The GT4 cars run on GT5 physics and have updated sounds/paint scratches etc.

Gt5 is just like GT3. GT3 was the first GT game for the new console, and it only had ~200 cars. GT4 was GT3 with more cars and tracks. GT5 is the first for the PS3 with 200+ cars w/800 "bonus" cars. I think GT6 will be to GT5 as GT4 will be to GT3.

The reflection/shadow detail should not change, but there might be a slight improvement during the replays.
GT3 only took 1.5 years to be released.

Almost positive that the LOD models change out in replay mode. This is the case for nearly all games.

The difference is like night and day.
Look at that Alfa 147 compared to the Megane out front.
I don't knowbwhy the 147 is standard when they have a premium modeled. But the standards vary greatly. The accord next to the Megan's looks pretty good but the Alfa looks likely shit.

Well my PS3 won't run any disk now. Turned it on to watch a movie and it wouldn't load the disk. Put another DVD in and same thing. So I put a game in too and same problem. I'll call Sony Monday and see what I can do but if I've got to pay more than $100 then this thing will go into the trash and I'll sell all my PS games.

I got invited to the opening party but missed the all-day event. Sony had organized a Treasure Hunt and parked all the above-mentioned cars all over SF with clues as to how to find them, and I presumed the winning team did it in the least amount of time.
They were really stoked, and mentioned a lot of illegal driving to come first.
Anyway, how's the game?
I only drove Suzuka in the rain and Laguna Seca in the dry in a Delta Integrale.
I was pretty impressed by the LS sim in GT5. I stopped at either GT2 or 3, the hp just wasn't there for a realistic drive. This time it's different.
The rain traction was realistic, but I don't know Suzuka so I switched to a track I do know, and the navigation of LS was almost perfect.
The wheel had just the right amount of feedback, and unlike every other game I've tried except a pro sim, was not overly sensitive, and responded to very small inputs. I was able to just get into the Lancia, start 12th and win pretty easily, by using exactly the same technique I use in reality. Even the Corkscrew was pretty much exactly how I'm used to it. I was impressed by this short test drive and may actually have to buy a PS3.

So they added a NASCAR mode, and then eliminated the one track they had that NASCAR actually competes on? Or did they add some super speedways like Daytona.
Daytona was even in Prologue, and there's Indy. But yeah that's it. Kinda sucks that there are no restrictor plates for Daytona. Hopefully we can tone down the power.

I bought an S14 Silvia, but, as stated before, I am too drunk to drive it anywhere. I'm going to take my contacts out, put a movie in, and get more fucked up.
So far I like this. I haven't been overwhelmed by the graphics yet, but I'm driving standard cars so far. However the game overall is pretty fun. Kind of reminds me of GT2 with all of the options you have in the game. Feels different than GT3 and the others. Great driving physics too.
One thing I really don't like is the collision physics. You touch another car and, regardless of how heavy it is compared to yours, your car gets bounced around and the other seems unaffected. Numerous times I've come diving into a turn on the brakes and bop into another car and I spin out of control when my back wheels literally pop up off the ground (as though I hit a wall) and the other car seems almost completely unaffected. And if you're pushing another car (bump drafting or trying to push it through a corner to get ahead of a pack), the AI just immediately rides the brakes and slows both of you down. The rest of the driving physics are quite good, though.
One thing I didn't realize was that you earned driver points for completing license tests. First thing I did was buy a car and since my driver level was 0, I was pretty limited on selection. Best used car available was the MR-S, which isn't a bad car, but wouldn't have been my first choice. Finishing the B license puts your driver up a couple of levels and opens up some more cars that I would have preferred. So far I've only bought the MR-S and an S13 200SX, but I've got a handful of trophy cars that have turned out to be handy. Love the FT-86 concept I won.

Yeah the collision is a bit weird. It seems to work both ways at times though. I gave an RX-7 a nudge in my POS Lexus IS200 ( not a good starting car in regards to getting upgrades btw ) and sent it into a wall on Tsukuba. I barely touched the car. :lol:

Well I called Sony after the rage was over with. It will cost $130 to get her repaired or $99 to just exchange it for the new ones. I told them I wanted my PS3 back and not a new one. It will take 2-3 weeks to get her back.
So, while I look at my game disk I was thinking about getting a wheel for the PS3. What's the one you guys like?
Looks like I'm vindicated WRT all the "screenshots" being taken in replay or photo mode. GT5 is no miracle of modern programming, the new models are beautiful, but the in-game rendering quality is on the same tier as contemporary games.
Need to play it myself to get a feel for the physics, though.
I'm at home, so I've done no playing at all.

MR handling can get a little tricky in this game, especially on tracks with banked or off-camber turns. I generally prefer FR layout cars in the GT games. Ideally I would have picked up a Silvia-based car or FD RX-7 as my starting car.
The civic was a good starting car. If you did the licenses you could have gotten a rx7

Have you checked out the Grand Touring Garage 1970 Mustang "Trans-Cammer"? Looks badass. Like the Mad Max V8 Interceptor if it was a Mustang.
I tried to set up some races withhotrod but its tough since we didn't really have anything similar. We need some more of you guys.
If you haven't already raced it, I highly recommend the "Grand Tour" special event. 5 events, 5 different cars (4 Italian exotics and a Rally car) on Italian tracks/courses.

Just make a room and try to advertise a particular class or maybe even a make. I was on for a bit last night and it worked out well. I just asked if my HP levels were fine for the race ( all civics ) and they all agreed.

Indy was the other way around for me, the first try and I got bronze.
I got gold on Indy both times.
Maybe I should go back to those after I've driven the stock cars some more. Anyone tried B spec racing? It's a super easy way to win some money and cars if you need a break from driving.

My S14 Silvia was way outgunned in the FR challenge. On every grid, I shot to the back of the pack. And then I won every race on cornering, and a bit of paint rubbing with a 350Z, which was way, way, way faster than my car. I love Silvias. They handle so fucking well.
Stock cars can't turn for shit. The NASCAR thing is stupid.

Damn it, I got GT5, but realize my Driving Force Pro must be broken. It's locked in 200 degree mode, because the tiny servo motor that switches it between 900 degree mode and 200 degree mode is busted, and apparently GT5 is unplayable in 200 mode pretty much (ridiculous wheel wobble)
I've been trying to play with the controller pad, but it's honestly just not the same without the wheel once you are used to the wheel.
Also Jeff Gordon creeps the hell out of me. I realize that Polphony isn't exactly Square Soft when it comes to character models, but jesus christ they are lifeless and just wrong...
I'm going to have nightmares.

I've spent a dozen tries on various license tests trying to break into gold categories only missing by a few hundredths of a second because I keep making the same retarded mistakes over and over because I'm tired.

Having a little GT5 photo issue. I played around with the photo mode and took a couple of shots I liked. I put them on a thumb drive and transferred them onto my PC. They're kind of big, so I'd like to scale them down. When I try to open them with any picture editor that I have on my machine, I get an error saying that they can't be opened. For instance, when I try to open them in MS Paint, it says they aren't a bitmap or supported file type (even though they are jpegs). They open in Windows picture viewer, though sometimes when adjusting the zoom it will give me a "failed" message and the picture won't display. I've never transferred game pictures to my PC before, so I don't know if this is a sign that the files were corrupted (happens somewhat frequently with this particular thumb drive) or if this is typical of GT5-generated pictures.
It might be the drive. Try flickr. It worked for me.

You don't actually have to do the install. I haven't done it yet.
Yeah, I didn't do the whole install, just the minimum to run the game. I think it took like 5 minutes. Of course, by not doing the full install you have to put up with the load times at the start of every event, but they're no worse than GT4's load times.
Yeah, but as I had work shortly after I figured why not just let it install while I'm away. Thankfully the quarter is over cause I expect to wasting quite a bit of time on this game.

Well, now I'm just bummed.
Maybe the wait times are that much worse if you don't install. I'm sure this could be addressed in the future. There's already been a couple of updates and more to come that they have announced to improve on the game.
The more you play the quicker the load times get.

Controller. The test that Mustang mentioned would clearly go easier with a decent wheel that gives some decent feedback of the road. The controller just isn't delicate enough to manage the very slight curve changes in that particular test.

I'd try to pass cars by diving under them in the 2nd-to-last corner and they'd fishtail, slam into the side of me and I'd get a collision DQ. In more than one instance, I never even heard my car hit the other car the collision, if it occured at all, was so light and it still DQ'ed me. Took me many tries just to finish that one because of that.
Also, I ended up having to turn the skid-recovery force option to on. It doesn't intervene like a stability control (which, IIRC, isn't even an in-game option for the Elise) but seems to make it easier to keep the car pointed in a straight line.
To keep the tail from coming out on the Elise when entering a corner you need to keep a little throttle in it while braking/turning in.
Has anyone fiddled around with the B-spec mode yet? I gave it a shot last night and my begining driver is absolutely terrible. His car completely overperforms the competition and yet all that he manages to do is stay mid pack if I'm lucky. When I tell him to pace up or overtake someone he instead losses control and slams into a random wall, sigh.
Also, the kart racing is a surprisingly fun activity that I wasn't expecting being that good. Can't say the same for the first Top Gear challenge with the VW vans; I quickly gave up on it after 2 tries.

That challenge wouldn't have been that bad if the stupid vans could go faster. They top out around 45 mph, I thought I was going to die of old age before the two laps were done. I finally got gold when I figured out they AI vans were braking on a couple of corners that can be taken flat out.

Some cars like the Elise are not very stable during braking and corner entry. Staying on the gas a small bit keeps the rear planted. It's also helpful for sections or track like the chicane at Daytona when the controller limits how precisely you can modulate the gas/brake.

Ah, ok. So it's because of the limitations the controller presents? I was going to say, if you're having trouble keeping the rear planted, don't trail brake at all. If you can't modulate the brake and gas as precisely as you want, that makes sense.
Meh, I still use the x and [] buttons for gas and brake.... an old racing philosophy is if your not using 100% of the gas or brakes at any given moment, then your not going fast enough

That's pretty much the default controller setup for Burnout Paradise and, while I found it awkward when I first started playing Burnout (in part because most other games I'd played extensively used GT's control layout), it turned out to be very easy to modulate the brakes and throttle with that setup. I should try resetting my GT5 controls to match the Burnout controls, although I've played enough GT now that I've gotten back into the habit of wanting the X for throttle and [] for brake.
Wait till you guys try the last three nascarchallenges.

The Elise sounds awesome. My driving style won't get me a racing team, but I have to drive tail out. It's how I do. I even dorifto some in karts.

I'm most competitive with AWD cars. I like getting on the throttle early, and trail braking. A good FR setup or a decently balanced AWD car I'm best with. I've played so much with the GTR in prologue I'm pretty solid at this point with it.

How does the damage look?
I just won the Mazda Furai concept and I'm in love with it. It looks awesome and it goes like hell but has a low top speed (~186mph) that it reaches insanely quickly. However with a little bit of tweeking with the gearing and its perfect.

We need a day where all the Carspin GT5 players get together, and race on the same track, in the same car or something.
I propose we do Karts on the Ring. So far Karts have been the most entertaining cars in GT5 to drive.

Damage is, IMO, pretty disappointing. It doesn't look all that realistic (at least on the cars that I've seen damage occur on thus far) and to get any noticeable amount of body damage you really have to ram into something.

Anyone have any experience with the racing wheels? I know Logitech has a highly rated one made just for Gran Turismo for like ~130 or so on Amazon. The controller is just not cutting it anymore and I'm really interested in the wheel but not so sure if its worth it for just one game.

The vintage race series in expert is supposed to be a real bitch, if I can't win it with an affordable car I'll probably do the birthday cheat to get one of the vintage racers.
I hate the Nascar stuff in Special Events but the AMG one is really good. Wanted to try out the Nissan challenge but the servers seem to be down.

B spec is a good way to make a little extra money when you need a break.
I was glad to see the Suzuki GSX-R4 concept carried over. I saw it in the used cars and snapped it up. One of the best cars in GT4 and still every bit as good in GT5. Slap a set of decent tires on it, tweak it up to about 200 hp (basically a chip, intake and exhaust will do it) and it's a monster. Good acceleration combined with fantastic corner speed and good stability.
Pretty sure you win that Suzuki for completing the formula ft championship too.

Agreed. The top gear challenge with the Elise is damn near impossible. You have to trail brake into the first corner, and the rear of the car is so hard to control while trail braking.
Bought a GTR, racing slicks, and it makes over 600 hp now. Jeebus. Definition of slow in, fast out. It puts power down early.
Anyone try the italian tour challenge thing? Did the first Alfa Romeo 8C one, rocked the Ferrari F430 race, but the Murcielago is damn near impossible. It's too dark, you can't see shit.
The Murci race in the Italian tour is super challenging. The car is super squirrely with the ASM off and you can't see upcoming corners. Actually, most of the events in that series I've struggled to get better than Bronze. Even the rally section (where I usually have little trouble getting silver or gold).

After awhile, I just began to trust the car and ended up going through the course pretty quickly. Don't atempt to correct mid turn, itll just screw you up. Turn just a little bit as the car tends to quickly get the tail out and just let it kind of drift through the turn.

My bigger problem with the Elise challenge was that I'd be sliding past another car on the inside of a corner and that other car would be fishtailing a bit and smack into me, resulting in an immediate DQ for "ramming" another car. In some cases, I literally just brushed the side of another car with the side of my front fender and it would disqualify me.

Oh I was talking about the Murci challenge but yes the cars are similar in their behavior. But I agree, the Top Gear challenges are just insane. I would constantly get DQed and it would never be consistent in its implementation. Sometimes I could ram my way around and not get DQed while other times I would think about maybe nudging the driver in front and it would DQ me. I gave up on it in the end; it just wasn?t fun.

The key to the second Ferrari one is to dive into the first corner really aggressively. Brake late, and get on the inside, and see if you can get into the top 3 positions. Then, slowly eat your way up to the front. There are 2 corners you can really gain on them.

Yeah, I've gotten silver in that one (finished 2nd place). In fact, I think that's the only one I've been able to get silver on in that whole series.

Well my PS3 came in the other day and works. I just got my G27 in a few hours ago and my mom gave me GT5 for an early X-Mas gift. I'm putting it on the PS3 now and then I'm putting the G27 disk in. It should only be a few hours (knowing a PS3) until I can play.
Well it's all running. I've been playing Forza for years now and forgot how much I hate the license test stuff in GT. Time to suck it up and push on.
The G27 kicks some ass. Much better then the X-Box wheel. Not so sure if I like how the buttons are however.
Is there a way to get more than one user name on one PSN account? I just use my roommate's PS3, but I don't want you guys trying to get him to play GT5 when he's online.

If you could get the teams that make both GT and Forza together and have them take the best parts of both games and put them together it be almost as perfect as you could get. I really like some of the things in GT. And then again I HATE some of the things about it. And it's about the same thing with Forza too.
I just get the impression that Forza's project management was much better than GT5's. There are many things that make me think the folks running the show at Polyphony didn't know how to prioritize their objectives. They spent six years sweating the details, but the details they sweated were of the esoteric, time-consuming sort. I think Forza does a better job on getting the obvious high-value things right.

This wouldn't surprise me. The UI team for GT5 (and all of the previous GT teams for that matter) really dropped the ball.

This game sucks It's like Fifa. It does the in-race thing very well. But outside of the actual races, it's dogshit. Slow and dimwitted, poorly organized and just stupid at times.

Um, like 12am. Well, maybe like 10AM tomorrow. My night internet connection sucks. And I can't stop working until 10 at the earliest.
8 is good for me. Hot rod to get a private lobby go to community and there's a Coffee cup that says lounge. We can race in your lounge. Also I have a set up that can win the GTR challenge (ssr5 i think?) If you can click off 1:27 lap times you should be able to make the pass for the win coming out of the last corner.

I've been running my Mini completely stock. I don't know where you people get money in this game, but I have none, so I haven't fucked around with suspensions yet. Why is it so hard to make money in this game and why are there so many pointless races? I'm looking at you Black Kevin. People like you are the reason there is a Toyota Yaris race in Gran Turismo 5, a game that took 6 years to make, and is still fucking retarded.
I didn't really have any issue racking up cash. In fact, I think it was easier to build cash than in some of the previous games. I didn't even have to win and sell expensive trophy cars like in GT4 to build cash and I had several hundred thousand credits after maybe 12 hours of gameplay. The special events have some pretty hefty payouts for gold medals.
I've only just started the game and find getting money is as easy as other racing games I've played. In just two days I got a new NA Miata, New RX-8 and a used FD RX-7. I've still got "money" to use after all that.
I get $500K+ in under 20 minutes.

In a lot of the special events, the car is provided. I think some of the rally events (not the Sebastian Loeb ones) are the only ones that aren't. And I'm not aware of any that have an entry fee.
You're right about the normal races, particularly the beginner level ones. Some of those I had to pump more money than I won into the car to win. Although I tried to race using trophy cars where I could. I ran the Vitz race in a Vitz that I won in another event (but still dumped thousands in mods to get it to win).

Which one are you using? I tried doing it in the R33 that I already had but I could only get 2nd in that one with all the mods, I had to get the new V-Spec and mod the hell out of it to finally catch that damn Ford GT.

Don't ask the designers for too much, unless you want to wait another 20 years to be able to change the height/width of the tires in GT6 (but you can only change them to sizes you have on other cars... :lol: )

Forza 3 isn't perfect. But after spending some time with GT5, I'm starting to think it could be an overall better game. If not then it's damn close.
Like I said before, if you could take them both and make one game it be fucking great.

I think I figured out why DQing by hitting other cars makes no sense - it's not based on how hard you hit them, but rather the difference in speed between the two cars in the collision. So you could barely scrape somebody, but if you're moving way faster than them, it still DQs you.
On a related note, the IA-10 Test is really starting to piss me off.
I'm starting to think the AI on this game is crap. I get hit in the ass end ALL THE FUCKING TIME. And some cars brake at the strangest places.
I parked my car on a strait on time and let the other cars come up to lap me. Some of them just ran into me and didn't even try to move.
Dude if you are getting hit in the ass you are braking way too early. The AI blows on the brakes you should be opening a gap.
Have any of you guys used the Logitech Driving Force GT? The G27 is still backordered and I'm thinking about canceling it and getting the cheaper one instead.
Dfgt doesn't even have a clutch pedal. You'll get bored quickly

To be honest I liked the prologue better.... it was more concentrated on the crap I actually cared about and the online racing seemed to work worlds better

This game passes me off... you go from the expert level where you have to mod the shit out of something for the historic car challenge to the extreme series which you can win the Schwartzwald and European car races with bone stock cars
This game feels more like work to me than it ever used to. I'm taking a break from playing this mainly because I'm either too old for this shit, or the older versions just seemed more fun.
I'm unimpressed with the lack of accuracy for engine noises yet again. I thought they were going to fix that. You'd figure 6+ years of working on the game would be enough time? :partyon:

I played GT5 and Forza 3 all day. And I think Forza 3 is a better game.

I don't have Forza but I too think it's a better "game" while GT5 is more of a "Tool/RPG". It all depends on what people prefer.

I think GT has just a little better car physics. And only just a little better at that. And to tell you the truth, it could be because my PS3 wheel is 8 million times better than my 360 one.
I think the main menu on GT is better an having the challenges is nice.
I think both games are a wash on looks. The cars look a little better on GT but the backgrounds look better on Froza.
You've got better tracks on Forza and more of the ones I want to run on too.
The On-Line is a little better on Forza.
The sounds on Forza are MUCH BETTER.
The collision damage is better on Forza.
The Load times are better on Forza.
You can buy any car you want on Forza at anytime. As long as you've got the money. If I want an F-60 to run I can buy it without being at some "level." I paid $60 for a game and think I should buy WTF I want when I want it.
I think you can tune a car a little more on Forza. Or you can upgrade brakes and buy more rims. And do more stuff to the pain it you're into that kind of stuff.
And I've not played as much GT to say this for sure. But it looks like you've got more kinds of races to run in the GT.
So Forza 3 is just the 3rd game out of the series and came out on time. And GT-5 took years to get out and if it's better then Forza (I'm not so sure it is) then it's darn close. To me that makes Forza the winner.
I'm off to play both of them some more.

No, it has no license test. You just get in and race in the stuff you want or you've got a car for. You can't just jump into the high end stuff right from the start. But that's only because you've got to buy them first.

Car and Driver did a good review of both and I agree with them on most of it. I do not however think of GT5 as a "simulator." I've seen PC games that blow it away in that department.
I've played the shit out of Forza3 so GT5 is the game I'm going to rock now. But if you told me I could only have one then it be Forza probably. I'd just have to find a better wheel then I've got.

I feel like we need to make a comprehensive list of specific things that the GT5 team needs to improve. We could make it as good as possible here, then post it on other car forums and sites like Reddit to gain popularity and other input. Who knows, if it gets big enough on a site like Reddit, the GT5 team might actually see it.

I'm never able to race in the races with the car i want because i can never afford the ones i want, i cant sell the hundred other cars i dont like for money, the sounds suck, the online environment is a clusterfuck, and driving the high power cars is next to impossible because anytime i hit the gas the rear tires go red and the car acts like its on ice.

Yeah there's a whole bunch that don't have any credit value. For reasons Rotor said, I've stopped playing the game about a month ago. It's trade bait at this point. When I've some more free time, I'll be looking at Xbox 360's for another famous driving game. :praise:

I've sold a few of the crappy cars (Demios and Vitzes and whatnot) I've won for money. IIRC, some of the concepts have no monetary value and thus can only be deleted, but I'm pretty sure any car that is won that can also be purchased from either the new or used car dealerships can be sold for credits.

B-spec is pretty good for money too. If you can beat the A-spec races, you should be able to use the same cars for B-spec.

Not necessarily. There are some A-spec races where I fitted my car with racing tires (in lieu of other mods) to be able to win and many of the lower level B-spec races don't allow anything better than sport tires. Meaning I have to dump even more money into the car to allow my B-spec driver to win.
On top of that, the B-spec drivers are terrible. I'm pretty sure one of mine is based on Jeremy Clarkson. Put him in a RWD car with more than 200 hp and he powerslides and/or fishtails out of every turn even when his aggression meter is in the blue.

Maybe you got a bad batch of drivers. My B spec driver controls my 957hp Zonda R and 900+ HP fully modded ZR1 perfectly well, even on races where tires are restricted down to sports medium or lower. I've tried to drive the modded Zonda R with sport mediums, it's not humanly possible, and yet my B spec driver controls it easily, occasionally holding some perfect drifts when his aggression meter gets into the red. That's true. I just started on B-spec, so I haven't gotten to the point where I needed racing tires for A-spec. I used Sport Soft tires on most of the races before Expert series, so hopefully I'll just have to downgrade those to Sport Hard.
Actually, I think I'm going to start a new game once I get my steering wheel anyway (mostly because my current game file is on my roommate's PSN account, and I don't think can transfer to a different PSN account), so I'll just make sure I don't use anything softer than Sport Hard to win those races.
Started playing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. I can see why it outscored GT5 on IGN. It's actually fun.

They do, and I'm hoping they get better as they get more experience (right now both are at level 6 or 7). One of them isn't so bad with RWD cars and only tends to fishtail when his meter is in the red (and even then it's not every corner).
My driver is like level 22 or something. Unfortunateley once he gets to a high enough level or you use him too much I hear his stats start to decline.

I don't have a very good set up for it right now though. I need to investigate the Home Depot down the street to see if I can remedy the situation.
Also, what did you guys do to make the pedals stop sliding on the carpet? Mine are sliding all over the place? Or, now that I think about it, is there something under the pedal stand that I'm supposed to lower to grab the carpet better?

Turns out there is a little strip of spikes under the pedal to help it grip on carpet. I'll try that out after class and see if it works.

Nice. I got my pedals for my wheel yesterday. The downside is it's so god damn fucking complicated. If I get a job soon I'll be getting a G27.
My pedals have velcro and rubber on the bottom.

I kept my PS2 on for a day or two when I did 24hr races, but I wouldn't trust a PS3.

They don't seem to have one big problem like the old X Box did. That said, when my PS3 blew up and I called the repair line the first thing it said was "If your PS3 won't load disks please push one." After that it said if you had other problems push two. My PS3 wouldn't load a disk and the guy on the phone didn't act like this was a surprise to him. He knew what it was right from the start. This makes me think that something is starting to go wrong with the original PS3's.

Hmm, my roommate's is one from the original shipment when the system first came out, and so far it's running strong. I'm going to have to get my own this summer anyway though since we probably won't be living together anymore.

Partial cardboard mock-up of my future steering wheel stand. I might move the leg supports to the side to provide a bit more clearance with the chair I'm building around in case I want to bring the wheel closer. I think I'm going to build this part first, then worry about the back supports and pedal mount. The spikes on the bottom of the pedals help a ton, but the pedals still slide around a bit, so I want to mount them somehow. The cardboard mock-up is far too weak to stay in place while I figure out where I want the pedals to end up (though I'm going to try to make it somewhat adjustable).

Heh. I'm way too poor to get one of those. I already have enough money invested in this game as it is. So I'm basically just using my IKEA Poang chair and building a stand to use around that chair out of some sheets of MDF that I already have laying around my dad's garage. The only cost to me is a few pieces of hardware that I'll have to pick up from Home Depot.

I think $300 or whatever it is for one of those seats is bull shit. I've got a friend who can get me the metal and I can weld up a frame in no time. But finding a nice looking seat for a good price will be the problem. A guy in the Charlotte RX-8 club has one of those playseat's and after using one I must have something like it. But it's seat isn't a real car seat so it's not as heavy or hard to move around. I'll have to keep looking into how to do this.

I just finished the first 300km endurance race, and I don't think I'll have the time and/or patience to do the next one (the 4-hour Miata race) all in one sitting. And I'm currently unemployed.

I just tried the top gear intermediate special event (elise one) for 45 minutes straight. Got nothing to show for it.
I won the Elise one 1st try. Ride the brake a tiny bit going into the second to last corner if the rear is coming around for ya.
I swear the hardest corner in the whole race is that first corner. Damn comfort hard tires.

Yeah, the actual game play is great, but that whole "User Experience" thing is severely lacking. Here's to hoping they'll release some patches to fix the retarded shit they did in the original release.
I'm in the same place as r0tor; I've basically stopped playing entirely as well. I've been playing NFS: Hot Pursuit and actually having fun.
one of GT5's special events should be a cop car chasing you in the middle of a 16-car race around 2 laps of that 7-mile city course up and down that bridge/tunnel crossing the Tokyo Bay
I wish my PS3 was working. I'm really missing this game. I tried to like NFS HP but I just couldn't get into it. The driving seemed really dumbed down. I also really want to get my Bad Company Vietnam on too.

On a side note, I rented Dead Space 2. Now there's a fun survivor horror style game. Chock full of blood and guts too.
Another update,
I also got the X2010 Red Bull car. Damn it's fast and grippy. After getting used to the X2010, the Formula Gran Turismo feels like a miata, unbelievably slow, soft, and grip deficient
After playing this game at a friend's house I went ahead and picked up a PS3 and a copy of GT5... so far the only disappointment is the lack of regular Porsche models. Otherwise it's a really fun game. I'm glad I did it.
I'm starting to get mad at the number of cars in this game. They don't put in many of the cars I'd like to have but put in 300 race versions of one car and call the different.

I finally got a copy of GT5 of my own, as my stepson took his to SC with him. Love it so far. I have the HKS controllers, which work real good. Barely started playing A spec (and I think I'm going to run karts for a bit to earn some cash for real cars). But my wife and I battle it out in 2P mode. The HKS controllers made it so this is the first GT game she can actually be successful at.
I like it. Saves money on buying real race cars...
I always thought the HKS was a cool idea, but I didn't wanna risk the $60 and not like it.
