Saw a Fisker Ocean in the parking lot today.  No idea what it was until I saw the badge.  It looked really good.  I had no idea they were out already.

Sounds like based on reviews the cars themselves aren't great.

I saw one last week on the freeway. I also thought it looked really good

Biden most likely delaying EV mandates (EPA has currently essentially mandated that 2/3 of all new car and light duty truck sales be EV by 2032).

The current EPA mandate kind of sound likes a Saturday Night Live skit.

Why am I not surprised? Gotta keep those campaign funds coming in.

Just got back from a trip from the Bay Area to LA in the Model 3. I've done this drive maybe 5 times in the Model 3, and each time it gets a bit easier. There are now Superchargers everywhere, and mostly the newer 250 kW variety which really speeds up charging. I used to plan the trip in advance using A Better Route Planner, but this time we just got in the car and used the trip planner that's part of the nav system. No problems at all.

It's fun to go over the Grapevine in an EV. It's effortless going up while the ICE cars are struggling, and you gain range going down.

Overall drove about 800 miles at 270 Wh/mi consumption.

For a dummy like me, how much $$$ was that?

It was $65.40 total. Remember that this is CA where gas can be more than $5/gal.

Good stuff. 40mpg car would be $100 gas for that distance, not counting the wear and tear of mountain driving...
(IF the ICE could get 40mpg).

Gas is currently about $3.10 here in SC but EV would likely still be similarly cheaper..

Lots of speculation that they are just holding off on 2024 deliveries until they clear more of the remaining 2023 inventory.  There could be a change for the model year that they are conveniently "ensuring" the quality of until the inventory situation gets better.

Gee, it's kind of like why my Suburban cost 3 times as much to fill up as my MINI Cooper. Bigger tank takes more fuel load to fill. So yeah, a big honking battery, filling up at the most expensive public charging station, costs more than a small battery typical EV at a typical charging station (or at home, which you CAN'T do with a gas car).

And this is supposed to be fucking news?
Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

Yup, not news that massive brick-shaped EVs suck much more juice than smaller, lighter aerodynamic ones. Nobody seriously rationalizes them on the grounds of environmental friendliness. They're cool toys.

The person buying/leasing the Hummer EV is not, or should not, be concerned too much about the "cost" of charging it which according to the article would top $100 on a public fast charger if going from 0 to 100% charge.

But you can idle it for 1 hour while waiting to pick up your kid from soccer practice on a hot sweltering day without feeling bad or getting side-eye from the other soccer moms. One or more of them can even join you in the passenger seat(s) and enjoy their Starbucks Latte in the expansive air conditioned interior.

I run a lot of kid duty excursions taking my daughter to her job and back and my son to his music lessons and sports activities. I used to go to Starbucks a few times a week just to kill an hour and buy overpriced burnt coffee and use my smart phone. Now I've cut those Starbucks excursions in more than half. I just park my Kia EV6 in a shady public spot and leave the car "running", set the temperature to whatever I want, and listen to my audiobook for an hour.

Yes I'm just polluting elsewhere (the power source for the electricity I use comes from fossil fuels) but it's not a 1 to 1 correlation of emissions and I'm not spewing fossil fuel farts in the parking lot and I'm not getting side-eye from anyone.

Must suck to live in a place where somebody will give you a dirty look for idling.

Yeah it happens all the time. There are a lot of Karens where I live. Plus I don't feel good about it (idling for more than a few minutes in an ICE car).

Morris Minor

Plus you can take your EV on those short journeys that never properly warm an IC engine up. No need worry about not getting cabin heat, or it running rich, or carbon build-ups.

I never sit idling my car. Not really because of emissions, just because it's wear & tear on the engine and also a waste of gas ($).

I also end up sitting in my EV with the AC running a fair bit when I'm ferrying my kids around to activities. Nice not to have to run the engine.

GoCougs

Shit, I idle for extended periods because FYA (such as working from the car between client visits and such). "Side-eye" me all you want!

giant_mtb

When it's really cold outside (say, 10F or below), lots of people here will leave their car idling in the parking lot at the grocery store or convenience store.  I don't often do that unless I'm just going inside for a few minutes, but nobody gives a shit.

I used to idle in parking lots a lot when I had a dog with me on hot summer days...keep that A/C blasting for him to keep him nice and chill and so I didn't have to leave the windows wide open.

That's the market GM chases. They make the best honkin' unashamed full-size SUVs. And somehow the imaginative risk-takers in the Cadillac/Corvette divisions have not been rounded up and sent to cost accountant school.

I like the looks of the R3. Not sure it will ever make it to production though.

That being said Volvo has a very similar sized EV CUV coming out this year (or is it already out?), the EX30.
