Same. It's part of the visual charm those old Benzes have.

The practice died out with the appearance of the W124 (1985-1997), W126 (1979-1991) and W201 (1982-1993), which also heralded the "exterior plastic era" at Mercedes'. No more chrome.

Eek, I saw a Mercedes G-wagen that had been lifted and painted a garish neon green. Did some googling and apparently this was a factory special edition called the "4x4²"...? Super trashy looking, absolutely douchetacular.

There are so many ways to look douchetacular in a G-wagen, and only a couple of ways not to. There's a white Brabus (or fake- who knows?) G63 around here (only ever spotted in a Starbucks parking lot) with a sticker on the side that says "Affluence."

I mean bitch please, are you that insecure that a Brabus G-wagen wasn't loud enough for you to be convinced everyone knew you were rich you literally had to write it on your windows?

The yachts were festooned with LEDs and had names like "Persistence", "Tenacity", "Who Is John Galt?", you get the idea. The guys on board had American accents but the ships all flew flags of Caribbean tax shelters.

I like the seedier side of the Caribbean for partially reasons like that. I love boats, always have; but I just don't see the appeal of those mega yachts. I realize most owners use them like portable resorts, and fly in instead of actually sailing anywhere, but still.

It's not a definite indication, but it seems like people who care that much are more likely to overextend themselves. Keeping up with the Joneses and whatnot.
