Tesla reduced claimed range on almost every model they make. Sets the precedent for the litany of civil suits about it.

Oh, and WSJ dropped a big article about Elon's incessant drug use too.

Things are going great.

Meh, all sorts of people use drugs. And if he's got a 'scrip for ketamine, so be it. Ketamine helps a lot of people.

Sure, people take prescription drugs all the time.  CEOs don't abuse recreational drugs and show up to interviews high.  That's not normal at all.

Prescription psychiatric drugs can fuck you up even when it's a doctor writing the script. He said he relies on Ambien to fall asleep and that shit alone will unravel a person very quickly. Doctors will say "take this for a few days, but also do X and Y and Z to reduce your stress get your ass on a regular sleeping schedule pronto". People ignore X and Y and Z and proceed to take the medicine forever, and usually bad stuff comes with prolonged use...

Anyways, this
QuoteOne former Tesla director, Linda Johnson Rice, grew so frustrated with Musk's volatile behavior and her concerns about his drug consumption that she didn't stand for re-election to the electric-car company's board in 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.

indicates that his drug use is a visible and tangible pain in the ass to those around him, not just a private thing he does in the evening.

It's not "normal" but it's common such that 1/3-1/2 of the entire country is under the influence of one thing or another, and I'd surely bet that includes billionaire CEOs, esp. when lumping in the (over)use of HGH/steroids/etc. (= cringe caricature that Bezos has become).

When you get like a Musk, Bezos, Jobs, Gates, Buffett, etc., you are virtually 100% free of the consequences that apply to us Little People (and Musk is shaping up to be the most infamous of them all).

The US now has the refreshed Model 3: https://www.tesla.com/model3

I saw one on one of the Atlanta freeways just after Thanksgiving, evidently out on test.

Zero tax incentives available, and the Performance version is gone (as in China) - so maybe these are made in Shanghai?

Mark your calendar, boys. We're going to have an Westworld-style android dystopia next year.

https://www.theregister.com/2024/01/25/tesla_conference_call/

"I think we've got a good chance of shipping some number of Optimus units next year," Musk said on the call. "It has the potential to be the most valuable product of any kind ever, by far."

Musk kept going. "We're really building the future. I mean, the Optimus lab looks like the set of Westworld, but admittedly, that was not a super utopian situation," Musk said. It was at that point an unknown speaker on the call stepped in.

"Yeah, not the best reference," the speaker, who was unidentified in call transcripts, said. "We're not entering Westworld anytime soon."

No offense to MKBHD but I'm holding out my judgment until I see reviews written by actual journalists, especially reviews that compare the Highland Model 3 to current competition. Influencer pseudo-journalists pull their punches because they want to stay in manufacturers' good graces.

I'm trying to keep an open mind but stacking the deck by limiting exposure to friendly press comes across as fishy/insecure to me.

I actually really like MKBHD.  He's a tech guy.  He's been doing some car reviews though, but he'll be the first to admit he's kind of new to the car world.  He mostly just evaluates a car on the merits of its tech.  He's a bit of a Tesla fan boy, but he's starting to change his tune

He sold his Model S Plaid on Cars and Bids and bought a new 911 turbo S.  He's starting to appreciate other aspects of cars outside of just pure speed and tech.  I wouldn't look to him to gave really thoughtful, in depth car reviews, but I don't think he's just mindlessly shilling either.

He's not a mindless shiller but he's nowhere near the level of  car magazines during their heyday. The critiques when he does come up with them, come across as so freakin soft. I watch him too but I always get a strong whiff of Apple/Tesla fanboy when he talks about their products or their competitors' products.

Remember Vinfast? Poor Kevin (2o6) was massively exposed because he was the only one saying that the emperor had no clothes. He was vindicated in the end but it was crazy how writing an honest article was interpreted as a massive throwdown.

Yeah, I have totally different expectations for Marques than I do for someone like Camissa, because cars aren't really his thing.  Camissa and Lieberman are way more disappointing than a softball review from Marques.  It's interesting you think he's an Apple fan boy.  He carries an iPhone and Android phone at all times, but I've always gotten the impression he's much more into Android.  I think he just carries the iPhone to test iOS things, iMessage, and the camera, and his primary phone is whatever Android phone he's using at the time.
