So I'm sitting here in a Mazda dealer and I came in with me researched numbers and their initial numbers beat my starting numbers by $1000! WTF! That's never happened before. I'll post more later....
Here's some pics guys. Even got a Thule rack installed this morning. Took a little time as I trimmed the load bars so they don't overhang.

CX-9 or CX-7 to replace the Sequoia?
Please tell me it's an RX-8 or Miata instead though. :praise: It's in "The Big Guys" though...raised Miata?
CX9 Touring. Toyota was brutal on both the price on the new one and the trade. Much more reasonable over here. The Toyota had a little more punch but this one drives better and more room.
CX-9 is a looker for sure.
They got my sales guy running between three customers LOL. Seems to have worked to my advantage. Plus, its an 09 and last day of the month.
Wait, what happened to the Xterra?
meh
CX9 > Xterra in any way other than offroad, IMO. As much as I love the Xterra.
CX9? I was at the dealer with my friend earlier this year.. we were able to get 10k off sticker price!!! But that was with a fully loaded CX with Navi and everything else. And the manufacturer's financing. He still didn't get the car though.
My wife really wanted 3rd row seating. Out the door price is $30,490. Sticker was $36,200. Just going to bring my wife by to make sure she likes it too.

See if you can get it down for more. The sticker on the car we were looking at was 38k ish I think and the dealer was willing to come down to 28kish.
I tried and got another $500. I checked the net and I am right at TMV, which right now is about $3000 under invoice. I think that's a pretty good price.
Target price on carsdirect.com is $30,070 and I am right there. Got the exact color and options I wanted so I am not complaining.

Most definitely.
It may also be a regional thing.
I was at a local Nissan dealer yesterday and we were talking about a Pathfinder. I wasn't overly enamored with it. Seemed stuck between gears at 35 mph, very small inside too. It had about the same equipment as the CX9 here and the sticker was almost $38K? They came down to the high $33's and that was it. Considering the prices for larger more luxurious vehicles I couldn't understand it.

I don't remember you testing these but I drove a Highlander, Pathfinder, Pilot and this. The Pilot was very large with cheap materials inside and drove like a bus. The Highlander drove nice and had lots of power but the pricing and dealer were brutal. See above on the Pathfinder. The CX9 rides more like my Maxima which is a bit firm. The interior is very sporty and the third row is generous and even has a good amount of storage behind.

So far I am really enjoying the ride on this car. Nice, firm ride but not harsh at all. Definitely communicates the road to the driver but not annoyingly so. Mine has the 18" wheels. Supposedly the 20" wheels on the Grand Touring can give a harsh ride. The interior is very comfortable and the quality is very good. My 2001 Nissan Pathfinder had good quality interior and the plastics look the same in this car. For whatever reason the new Pathfinder uses a harder, thinner plastic. The CX9 certainly feels more like a car than an SUV with really good turn in and minimal body roll in the turns.

I like the Flex my wife does not. She really wanted a Highlander so I won that battle! The only thing I really don't like about the Flex is it seems like it has low ground clearance though I am not sure of the actual numbers.

Been a week and I'm still stoked about the purchase. Only a couple gripes. The tranny is slow to downshift when you get on it. One can compensate by shifting manually. I don't like some of the steering wheel trim around the buttons. It has the consistency of a woman's nail file.

It, likely, has a transmission simlar (the same) as in my wife's '09 Escape. It is the new GM/Ford joint-venture 6 spd. I notice the same thing when driving my wife's Escape. I believe it is mapped for fuel economy rather than sporty acceleration. However, if you really tromp on it, it will downshift with no complaints; about three ratios.

We've had to tweek the calibrations on that AT somewhat with some of our vehicles, you might call Mazda and find out if there is anything they can do for you there. It may offer somewhat improved shift performance.
That said, we used to have people complaining about the tranny hunting too much and the new calibration actually makes it more reluctant to downshift, so... YMMV.

That's actually not too bad. One thing I've noticed about Mazdas is that they are definitely not the most fuel efficient cars in their respective classes. My Civic was much better than my Proteg?, and my dad's Mazda6 isn't really that fuel efficient either. 'Course, his car is a 5-speed, and he drives spiritedly.
But, generally, if fuel consumption is at the top of your list, there are better options than a Mazda. Personally, I'll sacrifice some fuel consumption for some zoom-zoom.
This vehicle feels nothing like the crossover that it is. I think Mazda did an unbelievable job tuning the chassis and suspension.

I'll have to do a thread! It was a pretty good deal and is loaded with stuff I wasn't even looking for. And yes, there's room for my 37 kids and the Doberman. Plus it'll pull the trailers. Damn, 16" longer than the Expedition. Crazy!
I never look in this part of the form. Nice SUV choice. I've worked on a few in my day and liked them.
Everyone's getting a Mazda these days! We might get a 6 Touring Plus on Monday.

It'd be more reliable than a Volvo.
Best of luck to you guys, too.
Took a trip up north today at got 22 mpg.

Out of curiosity, why did you pick it over an extended Expedition?

The extended Expedition really looks dorky. The style leaves me flat. That, plus after 10 years and 3 blue Expeditions, I think we were in a rut and it was time to switch back to Chevy. The Fords never left us with a feeling that they were going to run happily for 150,000 miles. We traded the last 2 in at 95k miles since they were starting to need repairs every few months - front end, alternator, coil packs, etc. Without a warranty (which expires at 100k), that stuff gets expensive. In my experience, more expensive than a new payment.
greg, your testimony interested me so much that i did more research on your new vehicle and the smaller cx-7. according to consumer reports, the cx-7 and the cx-9 are built off of different platforms (the cx-7 supposedly sharing platforms with the ford flex. is cr correct? if so, is the cx-9 based on a volvo? i anxiously await the answer. greg? others?
i have noticed that the cx-9 is always rated higher in most, if not all categories.

No one has said the CX-7 shares anything with the Flex, but the CX-9 does.
thanks, ifcar. i must have read the report incorrectly... what i referenced come from a special 2010 car/truck preview guide put out by cr. i will take a second look tomorrow. this "fall guide" was a waste of money as it only features a brief description of some of the 2010 models... the things i already knew. the label of the publication is misleading as the vast majority of information and pics concern '09 vehicles. i bought the mag without flipping through it, hoping to discover a great read once on my sailboat.
the blurbs on the cx-7 and cx-9 did indicate a difference in platforms. i can barely wait to review this again in the a.m.
Yes, the CX9 shares the platform with the Flex. It's a great car, really happy with it.
i love it! i may copy you when it comes time to trade my 2000 nissan maxi se in about a year! i, too, have looked at everything from nissan, toyota and honda (crossovers/suv wise), but cannot help but reflect on the gorgeous lines of the sporty mazda cx-9. i looked closely at the acura rdx and mdx, and audi q5 and q7, but damn those outrageous priced! yikes. with the state of the economy, i have given up on the notion of a small luxury-sport convertible or dodge challenger r/t or str-8 for something more practical for me, girlfriend and dogs. i love my 2008 maxima se, so i will definitely keep that gem.

It probably sounds weird but if you like the Maxima you will like the CX9.
btw, my girlfriend just bought a 2010 chevrolet equinox. she traded in a chevrolet s-10 her father gave her. surprisingly, it qualified for the cash-for-clunkers program. her dad works for corporate gm, for a mazda was out of the running for him :nono: !
i must say, her new truck, loaded to the gills, is awesome!
no. it does not sound weird at all! i love the looks of both, greg. you may shutter, but i was so excited when i first saw the subaru tribeca (pre and post facelift). in fact, i looked closely at both the tribeca and mazda cx-9... and was torn. the dash of the subaru was so futuristic at the time, i was sold on that alone. however, the ride really disappointed me. it was okay, but too minivan-like in every respect. great for a soccer mom or boy scout leader dad. with the mazda's, EVERYTHING impressed me. i never test drove one, but will. i look forward to it!
you are so right! i think the 2009 and 2010 maxi's look hot. it's the mazda that has similar lines, not the nice (but almost over-styled) nissan murano. no offense to the murano, but the cx-7 has what nothing in that class has -- bulging muscles :ohyeah: !
After a few months I have to say I love this car. Best vehicle I have ever owned. It's comfortable, drives great and can fit a good amount of people and stuff.
I only have a couple gripes:
- Dim headlights
- Transmission is a bit slow on down shifts
- No RDS on the radio (sounds great though)

Wat?
Is it even possible to get car radios without RDS these days?
Apparently it is...seems silly. All my vehicles have had it in the past.

Try these (http://store.candlepower.com/bconibr90ulh5.html) for your low beams and these (http://store.candlepower.com/narahi90h65w.html) for your high beams. Those low beams in particular may be more effective that what you've got. I couldn't find any over-wattage bulbs for your low beams, though the first bulb is as bright as you can get with legal wattage.
What's RDS anyway?

Radio Display. It shows you what channel you're on, among other things. It can also advertise commercials and issue emergency alerts through the RDS display.

I will try that. Halogen projectors seem to be weak.

I think the Mazda one only does that for the Satelite radio.. don't really listen to music on radio so never found it useful..

Yeah, they can be for sure. They also have a very sharp cutoff for the top of the beam so you don't get much range with them unfortunately, but that first bulb should at least help with seeing stuff on the side of the road and within range of the lights.

It does for MP3 CDs too, if the metadata on the CD was set up properly. But for regular ol' AM and FM, no, which kind of sucks but... meh.

Yup, plus only power seats and one-touch up/down windows on the drivers side. Why make it so exclusive! Oh, and when you play CDs, no minutes or seconds! That made me the most mad.
The driver's one-touch up/down is pretty common, but no track time on CDs? WTF?! :nutty:

I listen to most AM and you're correct about the SAT radio but I have no need for it.
The head unit in my Ibiza is out of a 1994 Renault Clio (Pioneer/Renault OEM unit) and that has RDS and displays CD track times...
Just swapped out the Thule 450's I had with 460's which mount directly to the fixed points on the roof.

Here's the Thule 450 mounted to the factory rails.

Too much going on here. The factory rails are flimsy and are only rated to 100 lbs.
Here's the 460 Kit..... 165 lb rating

They are so damn handy. I have all the same attachments as Greg for mine, and change 'em out as activities change with seasons. Makes it possible to haul a lot of gear with a small car. I've hauled extension ladders, lumber, and mattresses with it too. :praise:

Oooh I need to take a pic with the custom racks I have for the Grandpa Cruiser right now. 8' 4x4s with green astroturf stapled to 'em
Awesome. I have a Thule cargo box I'll be mounting soon. Going skiing this coming weekend. We'll just throw all the stuff in there.

Europe has always been better about RDS. In fact it's more rare that you find RDS here in the US than not.. ?!
I've only found a couple stations that support RDS.
In France the RDS is reliable and accurate. The Traffic feature is incredibly handy, where it will mute a broadcast, wake it back up when a traffic update is being issued, then go back to mute.
