Dad looking for a new truck

He told me he was close to getting a 2010 F150 the other day but some how the paper work was screwed up.  Anyways, likely going to go for a 2010 model to save some cash even though I told him he should wait for a 2011 F150.  Not sure if he is thinking about other brands but he seems to like the current F150s the best.

Submariner

Nice vehicles for sure - what trim is he going for?

The truck he was looking at was an XLT crew cab.

SVT666

My order of preference for the current crop of full size 1/2 ton pickups is:

1. Ram 1500
2. Ford F-150
3. GMC Sierra 1500

4. Everything else.

I'm going to sound like an asshole, but congrats?

What is the thread for, he hasn't bought it yet.

If you're looking for suggestions, it sounds like his mind has been made up for a while already

I guess it's still open.  He was looking at a Tacoma but those things cost the same as a full size truck.

I think he looked at a Tundra too, but don't think he drove one.

The Tacomas did absolutely terribly in the crash tests. It seems like you have the bases covered, perhaps you can sell him on the 2011 based on resale? I think it really would be worth it to get the 2011, but I can't fault him for saving money.

No, not at all...

Nevermind, 3 stars in the frontal crash test. Overall rating 4 stars.

Depends on how long is going to keep it.

Saved my dad $5000-6000 to get a 2010 and given that he'll keep it for 10+ years the resale difference will be insignificant.

Right, from a financial standpoint it may still be better to get the 2010. I'd still want the 2011, but I care about that a whole lot more than most other people.

Atomic

all pretty good choices, i think. once, most only considered a ford or chevy and those brand loyalists were pretty faithful, even loathing their rival(s)!

Mustangfan2003

My dad has actually owned mostly GM vehicles, but since Ford restyled the F150 back in 04 he likes them better it seems.

There are a ton of old (old being 2000s back to the early 70s) Fords around here, a few Chevys, and very few old Dodges. If he's in for the long haul I'd go with a Ford just based on how many different model years I see sticking around out here versus the other makes.

Not sold here.  Well he still hasn't got anything as far as I know.  I know he's been pretty busy.

Consumer Reports likely wouldn't rate it too highly even if it were.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Mike Rowe  is a Ford guy.  That's enough to make me want to buy one.

Mike Rowe must be Mr blue collar now.  He does ads for Lee jeans and does some in Alabama now getting people to go to trade school instead of college.

He always has been supportive.  Dirty Jobs (one of the best shows on TV IMO) has stressed the importance of blue collar trades for the last 5 years.

It's the opposite here. Tons of GM fullsizers. A few Fords. And hardly any Dodges. I can remember the last time I saw a Pre-1994 Ram.

So what we're both finding is hardly any Dodges. I think that's telling enough when you add it up :P

There were much fewer Dodge trucks sold back then.

Chrysler's also been making shitty shit for a good few decades.

Actually talked to a guy today that was having transmission problems with his mid 90s Dodge.  Pretty much anything by Chrysler in the 90s and early 2000s had transmission troubles.
