haha... Starlink is cool. (I don't have a use case for it, but people using it are pretty much ecstatic.)

Apparently the FCC pays for Starlink. ISPs can basically give away Starlink kits to folks in the far flung boonies instead of running fiber to the houses, therefore satisfying the statutory requirement that all Americans have access to high speed Internet.

Musk is a pro at sucking up dem credits.

If I lived in the boonies I'd go for it. But my fiber connection is faster and cheaper since I'm in a populated area.

Yes, it's really aimed at people who live in areas where there's little or nothing now. And, in the future, vehicles, planes & ships.

I wonder if Starlink subscribers know they're partially funding Musk's eventual move to Mars.

FSD beta 10 on city streets. Not bad but definitely still just-passed-the-test teenage driver level.

It looks like you really have to get into ridiculous traffic patterns in cities to really show it's weaknesses... From my point of view its to the point where it will work pretty well already for most of the country

It may have stopped before striking the poor bastards, but again proper driving was to stop in the current lane of traffic and wait for the crosswalk to be clear before making the turn.

Either way, vision-only systems will never fully deliver.

They seem to be ramping up pretty fast. Berlin & Austin should be coming online at some stage next year. Their Shanghai presence is on my radar geopolitically. Amber lights flashing there.

It is when you're channel stuffing.  To all other businesses, sales is much more important.

Also interesting how Musk has complied with that California Assemblywoman and fucked off. The Q3 sales press release came from Austin & not Palo Alto. Musk himself left 10 months ago.

So Tesla grades your safe driving, and you only get some of the updates (that you paid $10k for) if you have a perfect score? :wtf:

Haha. It's not so much Tesla decides who is "safe" but that they're actually watching your driving with such granularity, and with unabashed permission. JFC.

I disagree. More people need to move out of CA, then maybe I'd be willing to move there.

Tesla had a show & tell party at their Berlin factory. The 4680 layout & structure is worth a look.

Tesla's in trouble with NHTSA for not doing a recall when they did the OTA feature update to improve identification of emergency scenes.

Is a recall even necessary for that though? Isn't this more about them not filing the proper paperwork?

Naw, it's definitely necessary.  It implies there was a safety defect when it was first released that they didn't catch, and that they are now fixing.  For it to really be effective, you have to evaluate why it wasn't caught before release, and also whether the corrective action fixes it or not.  NHTSA is there to evaluate this kind of stuff.

This has been a long time coming.  The reality is, Tesla plays entirely too fast and loose with safety, and this has been mounting for a long time.  NTSB has been shouting from the rooftops for awhile about NHTSA's failures and pushing for them to act.
