Enough that you are going to take it over any other car produced that year?

It's probably almost as fun and doesn't come with the worries of owning a supercar.  Personally, I'd pass, but for a mid engine 205 T16, I'd have to think about it...

That SVX is really a helluva car. I don't know about outdrive.

When Evo assembled the 15 top handling FWD cars, the 205 GTI made the top 5, as I recall.  They had nothing but praise for it, though in the end it was edged out.

That was a good article.

0-60 in 9 seconds, I can believe, since it doesn't have much ooomph right off the line. But, the 1/4 mile time seems unreasonably slow. I would guess mid 15's. Maybe they did the test with the transmission in Economy mode.

16.9 seems very slow.  Some quick searching online says a B5 1.8T Passat will do a quarter between 15.9 and 16.2 (I saw 15.2 with just a chip!); and there's a huge power difference.  I can't believe that your car weighs that much more than mine or that the AWD system saps that much power.

Erm...some more quick looking says the V8 Quattro manual weighs 3900 pounds.  So, while I think it's still too slow, I'd see 16.5 or so as more reasonable.

So many interesting 1951 cars!

Probably, the first car I actually remember riding in, a green fastback '51 2-door Buick Special.

My Dad bought in in early '53 and had it until he bought the '55 Ford we had until '61.

A friend of mine had a '51 Buick back in the late '50s.  It looked something like this...

His didn't have his license so I did all the driving.

A few things I remember about it:

- The straight eight flat-head looked like it came out of a bulldozer.
- The starter was engaged by pressing the gas pedal to the floor.  A good idea unless you flooded it...which happened fairly often.
- The 'dynaflow' automatic had the characteristics of a CVT.
- The hood could tilt up from either side.  A convenience when working on something on either side of the engine.  It could, also, detach from both sides and lift off.  We found this out when we were driving one night in the middle of winter, in a snowstorm, to a lodge in the country.  The wind was howling and the damn thing blew straight up in the air in the middle of nowhere.  It landed in some field and we were chasing it as the wind kept blowing it farther away.  By the time we caught it and reattached it, we were covered with engine crap from the insulation on the bottom side of the hood.
-  It was lots of fun.
