Choose ONE car from your birth year

The '68 Charger is one of my all-time favorite cars.

My birth year car of choice would be a '72 Z-28.

Pirate, how about a nice '82 Ferrari 512BB?

I'm going to have to go with the Ferrari 308, I think.  It's a tough decision, as I like the Jaguar XJS and the BMW 6-series as well.

But 308 it is.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

You know what? I would really like a 1986 Ferrari 412.

Always had a soft spot for that 400 series.

Oh then the redhead must make way to the almighty F40.

I hear the Magnum P.I. theme in my head evry time I see one of those.  I must have one, someday.

The F40, F1, XJ220, Diablo, etc were all produced in that year and you'd rather have a Peugeot hatchback with 115hp?

I prefer the the Testarossa to the F40, or just about any other Ferrari of the last twenty years, for that matter.

The 205 GTI 1.9 is a legend in its own right.

For a pristine 930, I'm not surprised. I want it, BTW.

Enough that you are going to take it over any other car produced that year?

I guess it's not THAT great, upon closer inspection.

I found nicer ones but they weren't '88s. I would want a Guards Red coupe with a black interior.

They only came with 4 speeds, which is weird for the late 80's.

They were on an oldass platform.

The N/As had 5 speeds. And I don't see how the chasis would prevent an extra gear from being thrown into the trans.

They hadn't changed the 930 that much from the older ones in the 70's. And I used the wrong term when I used "platform". The 3.3 that's in that 930 was from 1978.

Right...but I want to know why the Turbos had 4 speeds and the lower performance N/As had 5 speeds.

Oh. Well, my bad. Porsche wanted a beefier tranny, and they got that in the 4-speed, I suppose.

Seems to me that you would hit the top of 4th pretty quickly.

Long 4th gear?
So either that car tops out too fast, accelerates like a dog, or bogs down in the middle.

Yeah, they probably had to gear it very tall.
