Evo X vs. STI: The final answer?

I want the JDM STI.  The tight-ass seats, the rev-happy engine, the tighter suspension...it gives me hope that newer generation cars can be better than their forebearers.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

The current-model JDM STIs haven't quite hit the Australian grey market yet, but if you search a little bit you can pick up a MY06 JDM STI like this one.

No American mag has, but then the American STI is a bit different from the Euro/Japanese one.

Oh, I misread your post.

But I think the STI Type UK is very similar to the US model.  They both even have the 2.5L engine with the same output.

Cool.  See, everyone else in the world gets FQs, Spec Cs, S202s, Type RAs.  What do we get when it comes to special edition homoligation rally cars?  Well, of course, we get the STI Limited, an even softer version of the STI.

Yeah, it looks pretty frickin' cool, but why do I want my WRX to ride like a Buick and have a leather interior?  Our special editions here were designed for pansies.

Who ever said the STI Limited was softer?  It had leather and a sunroof, like the WRX Limited, but I don't believe it was any softer.

Ride like a Buick?  :wtf:

Hell, it was the one STI I actually wanted.  It looked good, and at least I could have some nice, sunny, airy time in the car, since I'd be so bored driving it most of the time.

I believe most of the cooler special editions are only available in RHD markets, which means they are pretty limited in distribution (Japan, UK and Australia primarily).

It was an exaggeration to prove a point that I think the US market often gets the shaft when it comes to cool special editions.

And I'll venture to say that you're just one of the pansies who the Limited was designed for.   :ohyeah:

Not only that, but it seems to be easier to privately-import such cars into Australia than it is into the US, even if a LHD conversion was performed.

When every inch of the city sits on a hill and you're in the middle of fairly heavy traffic all the time, you tend to appreciate automatic transmissions.

My WRX will be manual, though.

And I don't need power sunroofs, power doodads and leather, thanks.

Top Gear picked the X over the STi by a large margin.  There is a very cool part of the segment where the X is circling the STi with all 4 tires spinning continuously for multiple circles.  It's pretty cool.

I believe that was the 360 hp version we don't get here. He definitely enjoyed that one more. During the lap segment the STi was faster than the 300 hp EVO they tested it against, but Clarkson did say he thought the lack of 60 hp wouldn't make it much less fun to drive, and he did like the EVO more. He left the Subaru too soft and not as eager to over-stear as previous models.

Many people drive MT's in very hilly cities every day. I know people who learned to drive stick in San Francisco, which is probably much hillier than wherever you live.

And I bet you'll get an autotragic for your next car.

Leather doesn't add any extra weight over cloth. A/C is standard on pretty much every car today. Hell, even Elises and Nobles have A/C. What's wrong with that?

I don't like radios/stereos in cars (if I got a car I'd probably take out the radio since I never use it), but just because someone else prefers them doesn't make them a pansy.

However, a person who would rather have an automatic over a manual is a pansy.

There are lots of cars I'd prefer an auto in, and there are lots of times an auto is preferable for other reasons.

I guess Jim Hall was a pansy when he put atuomatics in his Chaparral Lemans and Can-Am cars. I guess 90% of bracket racers are all pansies too with their powerglides and hydramatics and 7 second time slips.

I guess my world view is a little skewed though, because I never imagined it required three pedals to not be a pansy.

Manuals are really not that bad in traffic. Some automatic transmission fluid salesman started that God awful rumor, I have been driving in NYC traffic for the past two years- 6 months of which I had a racing clutch- and it's really not that bad.

Um, I do.

Your commute is like ten minutes, right?  When I commuted, I did 104 miles every day.  I did it in the Passat, but also a few times in the Boxster.  In 95+ degree heat.  With the top down.  Bumper to bumper with diesel exhaust blowing in my face.

Sure, I can see myself in ten years or so getting a car with a DSG or auto for commuting.  But it's not like I'd avoid getting a manual just because I have to do some bumper to bumper on widdle hiwws.
