He's young and restless. He just wants to have fun with his rides. A corolla is boring a s ever, compared to the Modded accords he's had.

An accord, even modded is not exactly a high performance thrill ride.  I don't mean that in a mean-spirited or confrontational way.

If sporty wants something fun he should buy something with more sporting intentions built into it from the start.  Almost any real performance car would embarrass any of the modded accords he has had. Since they came that way from the factory, they will be less likely to break.

Not only that, Sporty lives in Brooklyn where spending that kind of $$ on a car that will be driven part time during the week and weekends doesn't make sense.
Word up. If I'm gonna blow that kind of change, I'm gonna do it like I really mean it. Older S2Ks & Preludes go for that much... and I wouldn't have to swap motors or anything crazy to enjoy them. If insurance checks out I will probably go that route.

I do agree though that it's time to put cars to the background as a priority and just buy something to leave alone. The emotional investments are unnecessary & a total drain.

Buy a cheap beater and drive it until it dies. You seem mechanically adept, so as long as you avoid stuff with chronic, labor-intensive problems, you'll be fine.

Eye of the Tiger

It is entirely possible to have a cheap beater and still have fun. Go ahead, ask me how I know.

This car WAS a cheap beater... and it died! No more cheap beaters.

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. So, I heard you can get a brand new Kia RIo with a 1,000,000 mile warranty and no options for just $8999.

I'm thinking more in the $3-5k range. No modded cars....that seems to be your recipe for disaster. I'd imagine a stock Accord (were any of them you owned stock?) would've lasted much longer.

I'd buy a Focus or SVT Focus and be done with it.

That would work well in the city, but I'm not a huge fan of the looks. If it were a Focus RS, maybe... I'd rather just get a Prelude.

Start with an SVT and get an RS front bumper.  Making it look like an RS can't be that much trouble if it matters to you so much.

Why would you get a Prelude if you're trying to avoid the Prelude motor in the first place? Just put a Prelude motor in the Accord!

One thing I've learned about cars... better to pay a little more to get what you want, than try to reinvent the wheel. A great stock car is a much better investment than a "build"

Okay, so you've got that down.

But the SVT Focus is a great stock car.  You just don't like the way it looks.

Meh. SVT Fuci aren't fast, either. They're mostly just fun. It probably weighs about the same as the Accord, too.

SVT didn't run under 7 seconds to 60.  Considering his Accord probably doesn't weigh much, if any, more and has more power and torque, it's probably quicker.

But since when is 0-60 seconds in 7 seconds 'too slow'?

And I just said that if his Accord had the H22A then it's probably quicker.

SVT Focus = 2700lbs

1990-1993 Accord = 3200lbs

SVT Focus = 175HP

Accord = 130HP stock, his is around 140 maybe? Also factor in the loss from his Automatic transmission.

When you're used to and want something quicker, 7 is too slow.  And I don't think they even ran 7 flat.  IIRC, they were around a 7.3 second car to 60.
