Let's face it, the economy is killing brands left and right.  It's like 1929 all over again.

But what defunct -- or on life support -- brand would you keep of these?

For all intents and purposes, it's dead.  And Saab is on life support.

I mourn the premise of Pontiac, but I certainly won't miss the types of cars they've been peddling for the past 20 years (with the exception of the Firebird, G8 and possibly the Solstice).  An underwhelming, 20 year old platform dressed up with gobs of plastic cladding is not "excitement", despite what the marketing gurus try to tell you.

Daewoo still sells cars.

Not in the US (at least not under the Daewoo marque).

Can you tell me where to find the nearest Daewoo dealership?  I'm REALLY interested in buying a brand new Lanos.

Korea. Besides, it's Kalos now and you can buy one at your nearest Chevrolet dealer. It's called the Aveo.

The others are fine, because you physically cannot buy them anywhere, and none of their influence (except Isuzu) can be seen today. Pontiac is still on sale, but not for long.

When something is dead, it's dead. Daewoo never died. They simply pulled out of the US market.

That's like saying Saturn isn't really dying because they still sell the Astra and Vue in Europe.  As an American, Daewoo is as dead to me as MG.  Fact.  End of story.  You lose.

And Mitsu only makes one good vehicle, and I'd never buy one.

It's not the same. Daewoo's design and manufacturing is very much alive.

Daewoo designed the Aveo, had a strong influence in Delta II, Gamma II and the Vue is actually a Daewoo Winstrom rebadged around the world.

Of the 6 models they offer (7 if you count the Evo as a completely separate car), only 2 (3 counting the Evo) are worth consideration:  Lancer and Outlander.  Galant and Eclipse are both turds and the Endeaver and Raider are forgettable at best.

The Raider is gone, and I didn't even know they still sold the Endeavor. What's wrong with the Eclipse? I thought it was a nice handling, sporty FWD coupe to compete with the G6 and Altima. What's wrong with it?

I just looked again at their site and the Endeaver is advertised as an '08, so that one is gone.  Raider is still advertised as an '09 model, so it's still technically for sale since we haven't entered the '10 model year for Mitsu yet.

And the Eclipse is just a 2-door Galant with swoopy bodywork.  Seeing as the Galant isn't really competitive with the Altima, Accord et al, what makes you think the Eclipse is competitive with them?  It can't perform with the RWD cars at that price point (Genesis, Camaro, Mustang) and it's not as practical as the FWD coupes like Accord or Altima (the G6 is a bit of a turd itself, and is a rolling corpse anyway) since the Eclipse is only a 2+2 while the others are 5 seaters.

I'm sure the Evo is one hell of a car to drive.

But it's always been my personal opinion that Mitsu is the ass crack of the Japanese manufacturers. From friends who had them to the ones I've worked on. I felt they didn't offer anything I'd want.
