I'm actually excited (perhaps intrigued is more appropriate) about the Chevrolet Volt.  It's gonna be really interesting to see how that turns out.

Also, quite looking forward to seeing how Infiniti do here; admittedly I'm biased considering my former employer.

What was your former employer?

Just as bad as BMW's 5 series "GT".

Appropriate, as the new Accord just looks like a 5 series wannabe anyway.

I was excited about the Volt until I picked up a magazine yesterday and saw the expected price tag.

I can think of other things more worth spending 40k on

Me too, actually, and even more so the Opel Ampera that looks better, imo.

Also, I?m looking forward to a 400 hp Mustang GT.

I don't care about the price, because I'd never buy one anyway in the foreseeable future.  I'm just interested in how well it works in terms of usability, reliability etc.

I get excited about cars coming out regardless of price range. Partially because they often fall into my price range, used... ;) And others are simply inspiration. Even if I can't afford one, the world's a more attractive place for having DB9s in it.

Goals should not be things you can attain easily or instantly. And just becasue you're not in the market now shouldn't be an impediment to enthusiasm about new cars. I was excited and enthusaistic about cars before I could own one. It drove me to go kart racing before I could drive, and model car building.
Even after all that I'm still not all that excited about anything. I don't know of any car coming out right now that has me going "wow."

That looks pretty okay.  But it needs a better name.  "Veloster" sounds like a guy with a thick Russian accent trying to order lobster.

They've stuck "Genesis" on everything, so "Genesis Hatch" or "Genesis Tourer" would work.  It would fit right in with the Santa Genesis and VeraGenesis, and the Genesisourage.

I wish.  The closest we get is the very loosely related SX4, still a hot car in its own right.

That's 200 ps -- Pferd Starke, if you will -- NA.  The turbo version will make 265 or so and have AWD, I'd imagine.

That car looks too good to make it to production, though.

I somehow doubt that the new engine and an extra cog in the gearbox are going to result in the Mustang gaining over 400 lbs.  Yes, the GT500 is a bit of a pig, but it's also got an iron block motor (the regular Mustang has an aluminum block, and I fully anticipate the new motor to also use aluminum) and significantly beefier components to take 500+ hp and a similar amount of torque (with plenty of margin so tuners have room to play without needing to totally replace the driveline).  A 400 hp Mustang won't need that much extra drivetrain reinforcement compared to the 300 hp car.

200 PS is puny power.

The predicted weight of 1200kg will give it a decent power to weight ratio of a little over 13 lbs per HP.  About that of a first gen G35, which would trap 100mph in the 1/4 mile with a manual transmission.

That would put this thing on pace with a V6 Camaro or V6 Genesis coupe

I want to see if the concept would work at all, and I am interested in whether or not the Tesla is a better implementation of it.
