Overall, Motor Trend gave it a pretty favorable review.  It's almost as good as the ES, which means it's not good enough.  Somehow, GM just has a way of putting enough GM-iness into their overall solid products to turn them into "Always contenders, never champions."

I want to see this car succeed.  I want to see GM make world-class products.  And as someone who's spent hundreds of miles behind the wheel of a basic LaCrosse CX and a more upscale CXL just recently at work, I think it's a solidly good car.  But it's never been a great car.

So here's to another "good" car cum second-rate star.  Cheers, GM.  Cheers.

And BTW, the weight on this thing -- 4,161 for a FWD CXS -- is just immense.  Simply unacceptable, imo.

No one who buys it is going to notice the weight.

I pushed a Lacrosse to the limit when it first came out.  It was a good car.  To this day, no one has driven a Buick as hard as I have (with the possible exception of Grand Nationals).  No one is going to notice.

You're right.  I guess I'm just perturbed by the weight.  I generally think lighter means more nimble, so as someone who likes the car and thought the car was a little sporty in a Regal sort of way, I just was hoping it would be a bit more nimble than numb.

It's more Avalon than ES anyway, in terms of size, price, and market positioning.

4,161 lbs for a close to full size car is OK...........on second thought, the Avalon is at 3600LBS.....

And why are you dismissing the LaCrosse when it got favorable reviews!?

Seems a number of GM's newer vehicles are packing on the pounds.  The new Caddy SRX weighs something like 4500 lbs.  Isn't that thing based on the Equinox?  It's not a big vehicle.

VW would be a more apt comparison. VW is roughly the same caliber of GM. VW also does some heavy platform sharing, and their cars tend to be heavy.

Because most everything reviewed gets initially favorable reviews.  GM needs home runs, and they're only hitting line drives to the corner in the outfield, hoping they can clear the bases.

The company disappoints me with mediocrity at times.  Give it 6 months into normal production, and it will already be a comparo has been.

I do have a question though: How big is this new Lacrosse in comparison to the Regal that GM is also going to produce?  If they're the same size (or if by some chance the Regal ends up better than the Lacrosse) wouldn't that mean that one of the models is redundant?

The Regal is midsize, this is full-size. The redundant car is the Lucerne.

Your car has the added benefit of the bmw badge. Which means it received some of the best suspension tuning in the world for a stock car.

I've felt 3500lb grand prixs that reminded me of a obese pig wallowing in the mud. The good thing is i expect very little from GM, so i'm sure they will surpass my expectations(and the expectations of the general public).
