Just bought a new (used) car!

My second car is terribly mundane, practical, reliable, and safe.  But it is a 5-speed.

I got a 1995 Saturn SL2 with 103,000 miles on it.  I'm picking it up tomorrow or Friday.

Then, it's time to put ol' Subru on the market.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

WTF NO MX-5?!

They raised the price because the guy put in a new engine.  I also called him 4 times, and he never got back to me.  I had to move on.

When I post the final pics of Subes, I'll show you the damage done in this neighborhood on my metal car.  It's not pretty.

It's about freeekin time, Toit. SL2's are not completely mundane, either. Confuckingratulations!

Thanks, Nick.  It felt pretty agile, and it was nimble enough for me for just 124 hp.  It's a 14 hp upgrade!

Don't they make a club sport suspension for it?

We had a '96 SL1 for a while... I liked that car overall. The SOHC engine kinda sucked, the handling was crappy, but it made it feel like you were flying at 40kph :)

I really love the plastic panels though, park it anywhere, come back, no dents...

The only reason I would not buy that generation Saturn: automatic belts. Just one of my pet peeves.

I has manual belts.  Besides AC that needs recharged, power steering, and power brakes, this car has nothing in it.  Even the head unit is a cassette that doesn't work.  This car is power nothing -- exactly what I wanted, to be honest.

Edit:  I am taking my Kenwood head unit with me.  This one is unacceptable.

Also, remote starter?  Yes?  No?  Make it a selling point in the Impreza?

Cool, congrats.  Sounds like my Ibiza when I got it.  Cassette head unit which I replaced for a CD player.   Besides PAS and EW, manual everything (no ABS)!  Less to go wrong, which is important on a car of this age because plenty will go wrong anyway.

Does remote start work on a stick? Seems like you would have to have a safety cancel and leave it in neutral every time you parked.

Congrats

I was once handily beat in my 1st Accord by a stock SL2 wagon. The cars are freaking quick cause they're light as hell, and they're pretty popular in the auto-x scene.

Why no Sentra SE-R though? Those are pretty gnarly.

Congrats, fellow unthusiast!

Things you'll have to watch on that car: oil burning (check every 1000 miles), engine coolant temp sensor (ECTS), upper motor mount. Also, don't do one wheel burnouts - the end result isn't pretty.

If you're like me, you're probably close to broke, so this forum will help when stuff needs to be fixed on the car.

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/

I have an '01 SL1 5-speed...you were smart to buy the SL2 - that extra 24 horsepower is sorely needed.

Cool.  Better fuel economy and they're simple as well.  Shouldn't be that hard to do your own maintenance and repairs.

Wired up CORRECTLY, a remote start on a manual transmission will require you to perform a specific sequence when shutting the car off or it will not allow a remote start.

Usually that means you have to "activate" it prior to shutting the car off, it keeps the car running while you turn the key off, get out, and then shut the engine off via remote.
