Why hello there, XC90! What are you doing in my driveway?

CJ

We're on an extended test drive of a 2006 XC90 2.5T FWD.  It has the wood steering wheel, climate package, premium package, and the DVD player.  We like it a lot, my mom especially, considering it'll be her car.  We're pretty much set on the XC90 now, just have to find the right now.  This one may be it, it may not be.

PICS.  I realize they suck.

The steering wheel is so nice!

CRAPPY PICS:

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

They're great SUVs. I wouldn't say they were too boring.

Looks good apart from the wood steering wheel, which looks horrible.

Also  at no AWD

I find the XC90 to be quite boring actually. The XC60 on the other hand is probably the best-looking car in its class.  :mrcool:

After the GLK of course.

Just kidding.

Uh-huh, how long have your parents been car shopping exactly? Seems like it's been a couple of years by now.

FoMoJo

Good choice :ohyeah:.  I've always looked at the XC90 as the best of the bunch of mid-range crossovers.

Hey IFFY, what's the reliability like on the XC90?

Seems to be okay. There are quite a few problems showing up in CR's data for the first couple of years, but it's always hard to say whether that's just glitches that have been resolved or problems that only appear over time.

This is the Accord replacement.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Not in the least bit.  Why would it matter anyway?  We don't get bad cold weather.

We're going to see if we can get an extended test drive of an XC60, since my parents are very interested and the dealer wants to keep a loyal Volvo customer.  They're handing them out!

Of course.

As long as you don't need, you know, passenger and cargo space.

Eh?  Second row space is very good.  I fit comfortable with lots of room to spare.  Behind the second row, there's plenty of cargo space.  We're not going to be using the third row when travelling, just for around town when I'm with my friends, or going to family occasions

It's adequate as a two-row vehicle, but the "best SUV money can buy" is better than adequate.

CJ

I strongly disagree.  As a three-row vehicle, it's not that great, as the second row passengers have to sacrifice legroom.

It's more than adequate.

Not for the price or considering the competition, and certainly not at any price.
