Motor Trend: LFA vs GTR

Good article though the chassis dyno portion I found a bit painful. Sounds like the LFA is limited by the SMG and no launch control, but in reality these types of cars aren't really meant for drag racing. I think I'd still prefer the GTR.

Cookie Monster

I would take the LFA just for that insane 9,000 RPM V10.

The LFA shouldn't be a $375k car, and had Toyota not gone balls to the wall with the technology used to make the car (carbon fiber loom, for instance), the car easily would have been in the same rich people price class as the GT-R. I'd still say the GT-R is a better car. And if it isn't, Steve Millen or Hennessey can make it so.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

I would take the LFA because of the noise that V10 makes...and it's slightly better looking then the GT-R.

GoCougs

With such low volume (500) chances are Toyota already had all of 'em sold before pricing was announced. Plus, at this price level and this level of exclusivity no one cares about SMG vs DSG or a 0-60 in 3.5 sec vs. 4.0 sec.

I like the LFA more. But I've got no problem with the GT-R.

I want to see a Zo6 Carbon (or with the Z07) pack against these two.

It would be interesting to see the LF-A go up against the 458 Italia

When is there going to be a review of the new McLaren?

68_427

It's still in prototype stage.

I'm not really impressed with it. Seems like a bread and butter supercar. I will give it props for the engine note, but that's about the only thing that really excites me.

And the GT-R looks rather nice compared to the LFA in this pic:

My god, you people are still complaining about price?  There are 500 in existence.  They would have sold out at twice the price.

Doesn't change the fact that the GT-R (among others) are available for much less than that. The performance doesn't justify the price. I couldn't care less about how many were made - I'm not a collector.

You guys make it sound like selling a supercar is the same as selling a Corolla.

The performance doesn't have anything to do with the price.  It's the exclusivity that you pay for with a car like this.  You think anyone cares that a Corvette can perform on the same levels as a Ferrari for much less?  Slap a prancing horse on the Lexus and no one would care what it costs.

What annoys me about the LFA, and I acknowledge it isn't the car's fault, is how journalists are gushing about how it's really a "bargain". Aside from a well tuned exhaust, there's really nothing spectacular about it. When the VW Phaeton came out, I thought it was the best looking car available, with a spectacular interior and available W8 and W12 engines... and the journalists couldn't get past the reality of a $60-$90,000 VW. Yet now they love the idea of a $375,000 fucking Toyota. It looks like a Supra with a bad body kit.

Really. The Corvette ZR1, Viper, Porsche 911 Turbo, Nissan GT-R all cost far less and are faster 0-60. It costs more than a Gallardo and a Ferrari Italia, but outperforms neither. If Toyota built this car at the $100,000 price point, then yes I'd be impressed.

You're right about the Phaeton; though Clarkson did praise it and say it was a waste to buy the Bentley over it.
