With that said, it doesn't look too bad, honestly.

It's cool that they've got the balls to make something like that, but I'm predicting an epic fail.

Not as bad as I thought a drop-top Murano would look.  I'm curious as to how it looks with the top up.  I'm guessing pretty bad.

Watch this becomes the hottest new product ever.  Its messed up and out there enough that it could happen and, more importantly, it doesn't look like a half assed atempt too.

thewizard16

Huh. It looks a lot better than I'd imagined it would, but I doubt a soft-top is going to look good when it's raised at all. This seems like one of those vehicles that would have been better off as a hard top.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

You could say the same for the X6. Can't say that's the "hottest new product ever."

To be fair, a vehicle like this will be able to transcend more price points.

How any more or less so than the X6?

It's 1/2 the cost with most of the perceived substance.

Unless I'm completely missing your point, that's not at all what you said. That doesn't have anything to do with the fact that there could theoretically be a "Sports Activity Coupe" that costs $30k or so. I don't think this could have more of an influence over more price points than, say, an X6.

The point being is that there are more people able to afford a Murano Cabrio rather than an X6. Those who can afford an X6 can afford a Murano Convertable, and may be likely to buy the car due to how unique the product is and due to the fact that the standard Murano is not a bad place to be inside.

IMO, just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's going to unlock all kinds of demand in the coveted Useless Sport Activity Thing market. The crowd that buys fripperies like $40k+ convertible SUVs isn't going to be price sensitive in the same way that the crowd that compares compact sedans is.

The naysayers are looking at this the wrong way. It's not an SUV, it's a Sebring competitor -- comfort-oriented mainstream droptop -- that happens to be a little taller. Wouldn't you all take this over a Sebring?

The Sebring makes a lousy spokescar for the four-seater convertible market.

That's a clever way of looking at it.

I, however, think that Nissan will market it on shock value alone.

With this and the Juke in their lineup, they'd be insane not to.

I saw a red Juke in the parking garage a few days ago. I now consider it one of the ugliest vehicles currently on the road. It has slightly more cohesive body lines, but it's right up there with the Aztek on my list of least favorite vehicles on styling alone now.

Convertible roof [lack of] rollover protection coupled with increased weight and high center of gravity is awesome....

Also, it's got to have nothing for cargo capacity.  Much better looking than the X6 though!

My initial reaction is why the hell would any Nissan 'vert the Murano. But upon reflection, it actually looks quite good, and IMO much better than Nissan's other 'verts such as the G37C and 370Z.
