Way ugly compared to the current one.  The current one IMO is one of the best looking sedans for sale today and will still look relevant for years to come.  It's so classy.  This is none of those things.

This reminds me of the relationship between the MKIII Jetta and the contemporary Passat of the time. Stretch out the Jetta, soften it up a bit, and sell it.

It's boring and cheap looking.

My mom almost bought this car, but was fearful of the reliability.

Anyone else think this thing looks like the new Jetta and the Accord had a baby?

To me, it has the proportions of this:

But with the New Jetta's design language on it.

While I think it looks upscale, it does indeed look quite boring.  It's a shame, because the current Passat is a great looking car.

I hope this car is at my local auto show this spring so I can compare the interior space and comfort.  (Yeah that sort of thing excites me)

Remember, this is the 2011 Euro Passat wagon.

I think they will, actually.

So it's going to be just like the Jetta where the cool wagen will still be a premium product while the sedan is sucktastic, yet greatly upgraded for Euro/China?

It doesn't make sense for a brand as "small" as VW is in the US to have special platforms for one market.

I too think it's a bit odd to dumb down a car for the US, like the Jetta. Our Jetta has a torsion beam, but the world wide Jetta (and the US market Golf) has IRS.

Personally, I think VAG should introduce a make like SEAT or Skoda, both of who are cheaper, but offer 8/10th of the experience.

68_427

I'm sure 3rd world countries will get the same platforms as us.

So's this new North American sedan... :nutty:

(with a little bit of added length)

For what it's worth I like it, lookswise. Very clean, very VW.

No, the EU Passat Wagon/Sedan is the old one with a new nose and tail.

This car is all new (stylistically).

Wtf Autoblog says 3.5 V6.  Is that new engine or did they mean 3.6?

This looks terrible.

The back looks so weird. Kinda like a Saab and BMW 3 series mix.

I like it. It's conservative but also handsome and somewhat elegant. I do think this design would "stand out" in its class, I really do.  :ohyeah:

When you look at the gallery of this new Passat, the rear and side profile have some styling cues of the new A8 - which looks really good in real life IMO.

Wow, I thought those 2011 Mediocrity commercials were just a joke.  Volkswagen has actually built the damn thing!

I read about this car last night and was going to post links to a few articles but then I thought.....why bother?

It's just another dumbed-down US market special tailored for people who hate driving and just want a big wallowing and, most importantly, a cheap barge.  To make matters worse, VW decided to bastardise the Passat name by applying it to this abomination.

I used to be a Volkswagen fan.  I even owned a couple of them.  But, with cars like this, VW is doing it's level best to make sure I will never buy another one.

Yet again, Third World America gets screwed.

So?  Who cares?  Besides, I can't imagine anyone in Europe wanting this thing.  It's basically a Volkswagen Camry.  See anyone in Europe buying Camrys?  No, you don't.  And if I actually wanted a Camry, I'd buy a Camry and not a poor copy of one.

So, VW says we can't have the Scirocco, Polo or Touran and gives us this shit instead?

Fuck you, Volkswagen.  Fuck You!
