well it doesn't look like anything from this century...

Lotus Evora -- 3047 lbs
BMW M3 CSL (E46) -- 3050 lbs
Mazda RX-8 -- 3065 lbs
Porsche Carrera -- 3075 lbs
BMW 128i -- 3208 lbs
Hyundai Genesis Coupe -- 3294 lbs

I wonder if the upcoming Toyota AE86 will manage to weigh in under 3k; that's like a Lotus Evora minus Kate Moss

I have a winner (everywhere except in the U.S. :).....

The current 1 series hatch is RWD, seats 4, and is easily below 3,000 pounds in the smaller engined versions.

4 cyl mustangs up to 1993
5.0 notchbacks could be had just under 3000 lbs. in the late 80s.

How many current 4 seat fwders weigh less than 3000 lbs?

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

wow, I didn't think the 997 would have gained over 100 lbs compared to its predecessor.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Current Civic weighs under 3000 too.

Yaris hatchback weighs 2200lbs in base trim. Mazda 2 is around that weight, too.

The 130i hatch is 3,053 pounds with the tank 90% full. So it may get in under your threshold.

My 5 door SVT Focus weighs 2700 lbs,  The new Focus, despite being bigger and more refined is less than 100 lbs heavier than my car.

Does that car really count as a 4 seater?  I don't know if my kids could even fit in those back seats.

How many are not econoboxes?

The whole question is somewhat disingenuous and not really that meaningful. Rwd has been relegated to sports/luxury applications anyway. FWD is the king of cheaper, smaller economy car applications, so with smaller engines and smaller cars most are going to lighter. Overall, there are not many rwd cars left, either they are small two-seaters, or more expensive upscale models (that have weight-laden luxury items - BMW 3 series, that people expect in expensive cars).

Jettas, accords etc., are all well over 3000 lbs and have been for a long time. A 2011 civic 4dr can weigh as much as 2950 according to wikipedia.

The Focus ST will be well under 3000 lbs and it won't be an econobox.  It's based on one, but it won't be one if my SVT is any indication.  My SVT only gets 25 mpg.

Who would want to drive either, especially the yaris.

Yeah, I drove a Mazda2 and it's a tin box with decent handling. Not my cup of tea.

I thought it needs a sixth gear and 20 more HP.

I think it could be a lively thing.

The Yaris is trash, though.

How is the hatch 200 lbs lighter than the 128i coupe?
Needs more Jiggawatts

FWD should be significantly lighter, yet reasonable ones are still in the upper 2000 lbs.
Further, there are plenty of 3000 lbs fwders.
For example, ones that might hold a candle to the performance of the lesser (price) rwd cars on the market:
2011 GTI  - 3034 lbs
2011 speed3 - 3272 lbs.
2011 cooperS countryman- 3053 lbs.

Aside from needing a four door, I have literally no idea why people bought those cars new.

And, as to the thread I am going to go with the Fox body as being the last.

"America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
~Abraham Lincoln

"Freedom and not servitude is the cure of anarchy; as religion, and not atheism, is the true remedy of superstition."

Huh? The SVT Focus is one of the best hot hatches of all time.
