How original. Just a new rear fascia and a new front fascia.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

That's an STi concept, so don't expect a few details to be on the production car.

I think it looks very good.  The last few Subaru concepts have been so watered down in production...I hope this one doesn't suffer the same fate.

Autoblog said they've gotten some specs... 2800lbs, 200-220hp, Port and DI 2L flat 4.

28k base price

I like the specs a lot, but at 28k, what's keeping someone from ponying up for a 30k 370Z (330hp and 3,200lbs)?

The 2 rear seats would be nice... then there's also the Genesis Coupe

Car and Driver has a first test drive of it up on their website...

Anyway, it seems a lot like an RX8... Great handling but will suffer from "lack of power" bandwagon hate

400lbs, 2 "seats" and a from-the-ground-up dedicated platform

Its not perfect but its a much better starting point than both the Z and the Genesis

I don't think the RX-8 gets panned for the lack of power as much as it does for kind of having the worst of all worlds. You get low nose weight & free revving, but you get no torque, bad gas mileage and higher than normal maintenance. On paper at least it just seems like a losing proposition

My car is plenty quick with 200bhp and 3200 pounds to haul, I really think this will be a winner.

I can deal with a lack of power as long as the gas mileage is there.

I'd like one of these based on specs, but I won't be buying any cars for a long, long time.

It will not have any significantly more amount of torque and maintenance dollars are similar unless you really think $3 for a quart of oil between changes is really going to hurt your bank account

Perhaps this car won't overheat at the track like the 370?

Unlike the RX-8 this car will probably take to modifications better. And you know that's what most kids want to do.

Not so much that as much as the gas mileage in the high teens

It's a sad world we live in when sports car people care about gas milage. I've never even thought about it once in my life. Never

Not if they get it right out of the box.

Plus most cars don't have much built in "headroom" these days anyway. As long as it handles nice and sounds good it should be fine, though obviously there will be people who force their "visions" on it

Oh please. You mean to tell me you make no practical considerations in choosing your cars? Why not an old FD instead of the way more practical, slower, more expensive RX-8 you have now?

If you're referencing the problems C&D had with oil temps getting too high, it's a $500 fix from NISMO

My sports car gets almost double the MPG of my practical car/truck/thing.

How many stock 350Z's do you see these days? Most of them are all jacked up.

People my age buy cars and they stay about the same with a few modifications here and there. People who buy cheap cars like this rice them up.
And I don't mean cheap in a bad way. But easy to buy. Go to a Miata meeting and you'll see cars that have all kinds of shit done to them. Because
the car is cheap and it take to modifications well. As I'm sure this thing will too.

I'm going to get an FD as soon as I can find one that's what I want. My RX-8 cost me $27K new and I just found an FD that I really like but they want 22K for it and another Type R that's going for 29K.

And no, I've never once looked at MPG in a car. I can't even tell you what my MX-5 or RX-8 get. Never looked or calculated it.

I bet you would if your car got 1mpg.

If I'm choosing between 225hp 2800lb cars, I'm getting the one that gets 30mpg highway vs 22 highway.  8mpg on the highway is a huge difference.

That's not really cheap! I mean I can take my 8 to a track and beat the snot out of it all day and not need to buy $500 worth of stuff to make that ok.
Not that I'm not a fan of the 370Z. As a mater of fact I really like that car. But I've been reading some negative things about it from people who take
them to the track.

Right, but he's saying that there are surely practical things that you consider when buying a car. You don't care about mileage, but I bet you care about leg room.
