My first step in moving (in a few months or so) is to procure and soup up a vehicle to tow my shit (ASAP).
I'll rent a trailer, but I'm not renting a van. And I just like
beater trucks, so don't go there.

-It must be a pickup so I can throw motorcycles in the bed.
-It must be able to tow a 3000-4000 pound trailer of my crap over the Appalachians without blowing up or having the brakes catch fire.
-Fuel economy can kiss my ass, as long as the thing pulls.
-2wd is preffered due to less things to go wrong, and generally higher towing capacity.
-Transmission choice is on a case-by-case basis, though manual is preferred for reliability.
-Good, or easily upgradeable brakes are vewy important.
-Fuel injextion, plz.
-Most of all, it's $1000, and I don't want to put another $1000 into it. Maybe $500. So, likelyhood of catastrophic failures must be minimized.

What am I forgetting? Anyway. I hope this takes enough attention away from Raza's thread.

Where are you moving this time?

Looking to go back to South Carolina for one reason or another.

And you guys are no help. Nobody likes the 460 Ford? That thing is a torque monster.... and a gas hog, but w/e.
I'm still leaning V6 Dakota.

What am I going to do there? Maybe ride a motorcycle.

I suppose I could try to get a truck run in that direction. But that is neither here nor there.
I would rather have a discussion on the 3.9 Magnum V6 versus the 4.3 Vortec V6.

Vortec sounds like a V8.

The Vortec V8 does.
I think the 3.9 Magnum sounds better than the 4.3.

No the V6 sounds like a V8, until about 3500rpm, which it'll never hit anyways.

No, it sounds like a V6. And I'll make sure it hits well over 3,500 RPM on my test drive.

Evaluate whether or not you really want to live in SC. ;)

Pros:
I have one job prospect there. My best friends are talking about moving down there and letting me rent a room in their house. The cars are rust free and there are no inspections. I can ride a motorcycle year round. The colleges ain't bad. Charleston, Columbia, and Charlotte are nice, and growing. I already know the best bars. The mountains are so close. I'm still within driving distance of all my family.

Cons:
Minpin lives there. I always wanted to live in the vast and brutally mountainous Rocky Mountains.

How much stuff do you have to move?  And how many vehicles?

I ask because I'm moving in 6 months and have actually thought about buying a used U-Haul truck (they sell them, check u-haul.com) doing my move and then selling it.

It's an idea, but I don't want to own a U-haul truck for any period of time. Those things are so beat to shit when you rent them, I can't
imagine the shape they're in once they want to get rid of them.
I have enough stuff to not quite fill the largest U-haul rental trailer, so that's all I want. The only vehicles I have are the Accent and a potential pickup truck. I can make two trips, or
bring a friend.

The Dodge 3.9 V6 is a fairly decent, durable truck engine. Not super powerful. The early ones had some issues with the intake plenum leaking, which causes some problems. It's power is at lower RPM - doesn't seem too happy above 4 grand.

3.0L V6

GMT400 ('88-'98 Chev/GMC 1500 pickup) with the 4.3L.

Engine is reliable as the tides (all cast-iron), as is the transmission, can find parts in any passing farm field, can be fixed by anybody with a socket-set.
