Give me your thoughts on a Porsche 944S

If I was getting a sports car from the late 80s early 90s, i'd get the z32 300zx tt.  It mopped the floor with POS cars like the 944, c4 vette and others in pretty much every comparo when it came out.

If you have more money, then NSX hands down.

I'm not sure why everyone always bitches about "maintenance costs". Classic cars usually cost money to keep running, especially if they're higher-end classic cars and from a prestigious badge.

I have no idea about America, but in Europe Porsche has an extensive classic car support system. In Stuttgart they have their classic center where you can send in your classic Porsche and they'll maintain it, restore it, repaint it, clean the leather or cloth for you etc. etc. etc. Of course this won't be cheap, but rest assured that you're getting high quality first class service from professionals. For a dedicated classic car owner, the costs of this should be worth it.

All I can say is of all the cars you've asked about his one isn't doing it for me. I don't hate them, but I don't think anything of them either.

Oh you can. But it cost you an arm and a leg. And then I'll be mad at you for having one.

I can get a pristine, low km JDM one for 15-20k. RHD though.

Not to worry.  I see a post from that guy concerning collector cars and I pretty much expect nothing more informative than this:

The same annoying noise time after time.

Good, good movie. Another example of how special effects (that still wear better today than modern CGI) should be used in sci-fi flicks.

But now I see, you didn?t realize the 924/944 was supposed to be a VW. Well, that?s the reality of it, and again, interesting, but IMO it?s not going to get you the respect, admiration and driving experience you?re looking for and otherwise it?s about as ?collectible? as a VW from the same era (I?m not the only one who has picked up on this). Also, just Google what it takes to replace a clutch or starter.

Resistance, in spite of your insistence on using discussion as pseudo-intellectual masturbatory fodder for continued ad hominen attacks, is both futile and another chit in the win column for yours truly. You can do better than a 944. And you will. I think you have to face facts that despite your caterwauling you?re looking at a 911 of some moderate vintage.

That's not bad for how sexy they are and how well they handle.

That's not bad at all. The last NA market one I saw for sale the guy was asking $33k.

Yes, but in 94 I could've got a brand new one off our lot for $27k.  That's a hard thing to think about.

True. But where would that car be now. To find a pristine, well cared for model for 30k is perfectly fine.

Have you seen Josh's Miata?

I don't think I've ever seen a 200k Miata as clean as his.

Hell, I don't think I've seen a 100k Miata as clean as his.

Oh, I wasn't doubting he takes care of his cars. I mean, why be sad of what could have been, when you can still buy the same car for roughly the same price? That's not even taking into account 1994 money vs 2012 money.

A 944 is a fine car, but it seems like a weak choice considering your previous car.

I say NSX or Pantera.

Onslaught

You know, I think you'd look good in an NSX. It's a damn fine car.

CALL_911

NSX fo sho. Why are you considering anything else?

Honda.  Just say no.  It does nothing for me.

My wife would be quite happy with something like this.

A 64 1/2 to 67 Mustang is a real possibility.  As would be a Fairlane convertible, 66 or 67.

This would look kind of sweet parked in your driveway.

Porsche 944s are nice but very dispassionate, imo.

I can't deal with the headlamps on those things. And I knew a few guys who had them and they always had problems. Sometimes little things and sometimes not.

I second the FC3S. Finicky, rare, rewarding when its running

Yeah, but... it's like a 944 with a V8. Of course it always has problems, because it's an old Porsche, but it's... worth it... ?

Naw I think its more like 2 924s mushed together. With the # of problems squared

Sounds like a good time to me.

Now, who wants a V12 Jag?
