"Oh what a feeling!" (2o6's Yaris)

Was seriously debating on making a thread for this car, (given the crap you guys give me) but I'm too excited for it. It's my first car I've financed, and I had someone go over it and give it a clean bill of health.

2007 Toyota Yaris S with 5-speed manual, cruise control and everything. Pretty much equipped idencitally to my Focus.

Here's a quick rear pic at the dealer. I take delivery tomorrow.

I was able to get the price and payments actually well under where I wanted them.

Before you ask and say OMG WHY A YARIS!!!11!!1!1!!!1111121???>?>???

All of the comparable Mazda 3's were more expensive, in worse shape with bad fuel economy.

Honda Fits don't exist in this price range. The Fit is a more expensive car. First generation models tend to be expensive with higher miles. They're rare, too. The nearest one to me was in Cincinnati.

The Versa is hard to find with a stick, and a stick with cruise is nigh impossible.

The xB was as bad as the Fit in terms of price, but there are more examples. They also never offered cruise, and I honestly do not know if I was going to put the extra $$$ for cruise installation.

The xA was hard to find, I found two; one guy didn't want to come to the price I wanted to be at. So I walked. The other guy (private seller) never called me back. It too does not have cruise.

The Fusion/Milan were bigger and more expensive to run when I did the math. I also was sort of protesting my parents by buying a "smaller" car.

The Jetta, I don't like the 2.5L, and reliability scares me. It doesn't look very easy to work on, and everything is bound to be expensive.

The Korean twins (Rio and Accent) I don't particularly care for (sorry nick) mostly because of the lack of space and lack of cruise.

Elantra uses a timing belt, an an interference design. The ones I were looking at were coming up on timing belt jobs, and that just seemed like Russian roulette.

Spectra is cheap and nasty inside. (nastier than the already kinda cheap Yaris)

I always found variety to be the spice of life, so I stayed away from another Focus. I also couldn't find one with the options I wanted.

It came down to the Yaris and a Matrix. The Matrix had a better ride and a hatchback, but it had 12K more miles and 3 years older for the same price.

So hopefully, I will not really have to worry about this car in regards to problems. I really like it, it's a nice little car. It should give me hopefully many smiling miles.

Hey, if you like driving it, that's all that really matters.  Congrats, man.  That's a big decision to finance a car at your age, so good luck in that endeavor.

Meh, not really. The actual loan isn't even 5K.

giant_mtb

Oh.  Well.  Whateva, then.  At least you have a reliable car now so people don't have to give you advice!

Congratulations, dude. That's quite a decision to make at our age.

One thing I would like to know, though. Does it drive anywhere as well as your Focus did?

The steering is far more dull, but the throttle response is far better. It also feels a bit more on it's feet with a quicker steering ratio and skinnier tires. I will miss the steering, that is for sure.

There are a lot of cheapo handling mods that people say transform and really make the car shine.

Congrats! Sounds like a nice car and hopefully won't be a nightmare like the Focus.

I agree, it has it's flaws, but it's a nippy little car to drive. Still don't understand the hate for it....the Fit isn't THAT much better.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Congrats man.  It's the one car that actually makes me angry.  I hate the fucking Yaris.  Congrats though.

Thanks!

I've already got a buyer lined up for the Focus.

I'm honestly surprised I got the deal I did considering it's tax time.

Congrats. I forget that they make a Yaris 'S', but those rims and ground effects really sharpen up the car's styling.

And about us giving you crap on buying a new car -- at the end of the day, it's your money and your decision. No one on the internet will know what's best for you besides yourself. Enjoy the car.

And I'll be honest; I always have the tendency to go the next size/class up if I can get there for not much more $$$. I would've been tempted to get a Fusion if I were in your place.

2o6

Those rims are actually aftermarket, but they still look good.

I didn't know it was made in Japan. Cool stuff.

As much as Wimmer likes to discredit "reliability" and reputation, this was an ultra huge deciding factor for buying this car. This car is designed to hold up better than average.

Yeah, I hear you. For some irrational reason, I like my cars made in Japan/Germany. I couldn't tell you why.

IIRC, it's about a 8-10 MPG difference. It also doesn't offer as much more interior space as you'd think. I'm big on efficiency...

Congrats.  But it's too bad you didn't get a Yaris hatch.  The sedan is dumpy looking and just screams "Old Person".  Buy hey, ANYTHING is better than that moneypit Focus you had!  :ohyeah:

Price and how many miles?

$6650 before tax and title, 69K

Original price was $8450 and I test drove it out of half-curiosity back in early Febuary. I made a move on it a month later, after the price dropped twice.

Ah blah blah. The hatch isn't as well equipped, and the ride is worse. Also, a 5-door MT hatch would be at least 10K. And for 10K, I honestly don't think I would get a Yaris.

Thanks, though.

Slight bad news: dealer discovered alternator is bad; it's being replaced at their cost. I pick up the car on Friday.

Serious.  You dumped a money pit for a decent car and not another pile.  It was a good decision.  The Yaris is fine, basic transportation that should be reliable for years to come.  I wouldn't buy one myself, but I have no problem with it.

Just to be ridiculous, some car magazine put coilovers
and crazy tires on a Yaris just to get the magical 1.0 Geeee number on the skidpad.

Since it's a Toyota and shares many parts with many cars, present and past, the aftermarket options are great.
