Just to be ridiculous, some car magazine put coilovers
and crazy tires on a Yaris just to get the magical 1.0 Geeee number on the skidpad.

Since it's a Toyota and shares many parts with many cars, present and past, the aftermarket options are great.

It's not that hard to get there. The Yaris has a great chassis that's marred by the steering.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate the Yaris, but you can have a lot of fun with it.

It has a nice tint to it already, but thanks! The first real "mod" is to get the front clip-on "S" bodykit. It has the sides and rear, but not the front.

The Focus was unreliable from day one....the failures (aside from the struts) were not mod related.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Yeah, don't worry about justifying it to others. If it works for you that's all that counts. Enjoy it!

It seems like our family has inadvertently become a Toyota family. One brother has a new Camry and an 02 Corolla, another brother has an 06 Corolla. My other brother is seriously looking at a Prius.

If it has the bumper from a regular Yaris, I'd take that as a sign that it may have been wrecked.

The Corolla owner says his car is too small, and the Camry owner has no kids.

Took delivery today! Been driving all morning.

I like the seating position, and the engine is very willing and balanced. It's quite a bit quicker than my Focus. The shifter will take me some getting used to, the clutch take up point is very low, and quite sudden. It penalizes you if you're not paying attention. The Focus's clutch was more forgiving, and the engagement point was near the top, but then again that car's clutch was going out. Shifter itself isn't the greatest, though. Accurate, but a bit sloppy.

The central mounted speedo/tach is actually pretty natural. I'm not as keen on the digital gas gauge, though.

Handling is actually pretty nice. It's not as well mannered as the Focus, bit it grips solidly, if with a bit too much body roll. The quick steering ratio makes the wheel easy to turn and maneuver briskly. I will miss the Focus's awesome steering, though. Ride is better than the Focus, IMO even on Focus stock springs.

Overall, I like this car a lot. It should serve me well.

I think I need some transmission oil, it's recommended every 60K miles, and i'm going to assume that the previous owner never did this.

Doesn't matter. I looked at a "clean Carfax" Miata with no VINs on the front bodywork and paint overspray on the wiring. It probably got bonked in the front and got repaired without being reported to insurance.

I would look at the engine compartment and compare the color to the fenders to see if they all match up correctly. Also poke around the radiator support area and whatnot. Maybe the front bumper just got scraped badly since it has those ground effectz and he just replaced it with a normal one.

I already did all that!

It's been in a minor fender bender back in 2008. No airbag deployment and clear title. The bumper was not replaced with the correct one. Or actually, they neglected to install the lip kit. It literally holds on with double sided tape....

Quicker steering ratios make the wheel harder to turn, not easier. More power steering boost makes the wheel easier to turn.

There have been people who have turboed the 1NZ, but I gather it doesn't handle boost very well.
