It feels nervous over 65mph.  Might be the tires, but my car feels more composed at 120mph than it does at 75mph.

Sedan or hatch?

Its not the most surefooted car, but I feel comfortable doing cruises at 80+ MPH.

You know, for the split second I thought about selling it, I fell back in love with it today.

Yeah, the synchros are shitty, and the clutch/auto choke relationship is awkward

Yeah, the paint is fucked up, and I should have gotten the rear repaired when I had the chance

....but I like it. I can count on it to reliably get 35+ MPG.

No it doesn't handle the best, but it's hella predictable, and I've had plenty of "Oh SHIT" moments in this car (like today, when I almost understeered into a Grand Cherokee).

The car is very soft, but the steering is easy to place, and the rear rotates around pretty gradually

And I've put on like 30K miles (not quite) and yet again.....only minor bumps and bruises.

Yes, the 1.5L is slow as shit; I got embarrassed when I did an impromptu drag race against my friend with is '02 CR-V AWD

That Civic Si, although a nice car, I almost don't feel like it was as big of an upgrade as I thought. Yes, it will drive circles around mine, but I just like my Slow-ass Yaris more.

Maybe I'm getting all gushy and sentimental; hell I've lived in this car. Literally.

I hold it to my goddamn heart, and although I joke about it getting totaled and buying something new.....I would be fucking devastated. And I'd probably buy another one.

A lot of that applied to my 90 Camry. Not a great car but it was right for me at the time (and my wallet)

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

He slammed into a Toyota Highlander.

Judging by the debris, I'd say the Highlander was stopped in the right lane.

Perhaps it was near a stoplight and he rear-ended it?  I dunno.

What happened, Kevin?

Not seeing any debris behind the car to indicate it was hit from behind.

He was probably distracted by trying to turn someone gay or having one of his female-like gay problems, like getting his period or something like that.  Maybe he was watching To Wong Foo on his cell phone.

(Is it too early to joke about this?  I already expressed my condolences in the Chat thread.)

It might be salvagable

I missed the bumper support, and the car runs fine. Tracks fine.

It'll need a

- bumper cover

- Hood and hood latch

- Upper and lower core support

- AC condenser lines

- radiataor and associated fan and resovoir

My friend is putting an engine in his AE86 and is nearly done. He's got a 2000 Corolla that needs a new motor and a '95 Civic that just has had head gasket work done.

We might get it fixed and then dump it.

Madman

Holy shit, dude!  I hope you (and the people in the other car) are okay?  I'm assuming insurance will pay out?

Forget it.  There's too much there that needs to be fixed and, besides, do you really want to drive anything that has sustained that amount of damage?  I wouldn't.

Found an automatic Yaris that looks identical to mine with a blown engine.

Motor Swap then sell it

Have you done research? I'd be surprised if there is a fair amount different between an AT car and MT car. In this day and age there will probably be wiring, ECU and accessory differences. I wouldn't be surprised if there were engine differences (oil pan, bell housing, etc.) too considering how compact a FWD transaxle is.

There shouldn't be. Toyota isn't known for doing that, at least not with anything that takes the 1ZZ (1.8L Corolla and kin).

Even minus all accessories, the block and everything else is identical. Even if we needed to purchase something, it's a lot easier to do this than scrap the entire car.

Why bother?  Just take the insurance money and buy another (running) car.

At the very least, you're going to have to swap the flexplate and flywheel, and more than likely there will be differences in the ECU pin-out. But, its the kind of thing that can be done fairly simply, if you do your homework on it.

I don't see you coming out ahead of simply selling the car as-is though
