I want to see someone use the metalizers over white plastidip.

Thanks! I'm planning on picking up another can tomorrow and redoing them on Sunday. I'll post pics then.

Also, the website (dipyourcar.com) still hasn't shipped the paint, and isn't responding to my emails. I might file a Paypal dispute and then just dip the wheels black instead of gold. I'll give them the weekend to sort their shit out before trying to get my money back.

Black plasticky wheels on your color car is going to look really cheap.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

hmmmm.....

I've thought of going steelies on the subie, but they're all rusty. Would this stick on them without having to scrape and brush and sand and clean???

Yeah it's going to look shitty. I wanted the gold stuff because I want to see what gold RPF1's would potentially look like, unless they are a completely different shade...

I would try and get rid of the rust to make sure the dip sticks more thoroughly. It'll prevent it from further rusting (on the face, at least, unless you want to plastidip the inside of the wheel as well).

You'll be a lot happier if you get rid of the rust.

Youd prolly have to vo white wifh good metalizerg to get the Sanger color gold as rpf1.  Black with gold makes more of a bronze color

I think his car will look pretty cool with gold-ish wheels.

Green car, black top, black badges, gold wheels?  It's too many colors.  Might as well do each wheel in a different color.

So what's the best (easiest and cheapest) way to remove rust from wheels??

Yeah I just used a drill with a wire wheel bit when I took the rust off the gas tank. Then coated it with a zinc metal prep and POR-15. For wheels you might have to get a few different sized wire wheels and maybe a wire hand scrubbing brush to get in the tight areas.

I got some clearcoat coming off my spoiler on my Mustang :banghead: I can't get that fixed right now but I just got back from Lowe's and got a can and thought I would give it a try.

I got the paint Saturday night but Sunday morning was way too cold to actually spray anything.

And now that I've lost my keys and can't get my car back to my house, this paint thing will have to wait.

Will this stuff stick to MDF? Would be an easy way to cover my subwoofer/speaker box.

MDF is pretty porous. I'd bet the Plastidip would have a hard time even peeling off.

An alternative, if you want the velvety/suede coating, you can FLOCK IT

I'd rather stick with a smooth look. The original plan was leather or vinyl. But I'll buy a can of this today and try it out.

Got a can of regular black plastidip at Home Depot and sprayed it on a spare piece of MDF. Looks pretty good, so I'm probably going to go ahead and cover the whole subwoofer box and speaker panels with it.

That Home Depot link mentions that primer is required, but I didn't use any. Think I should?

Plastidip doesn't require any primer.

Over steel, no: but i'm thinking that putting it over bare MDF would be a different story altogether.

Seems to stick pretty well to it. Maybe I'll primer the other side of the test piece and see if there's any difference.

Might need to use a lot of coats (~5) to cover the scratches completely, but it could probably work.
