Are cars better or worse for not being built to last forever anymore?

Really?!?!  As far back as 2008?  Holy shit.

This is a new design, and it already looks a model cycle old.

SVT666

No it doesn't.   You're really reaching.   The interior might not be styled as pretty as a couple of other new cars but I bet it's more functional and that matters to me more than pretty.

2o6

The whole car looks old, inside and out. And it has crap proportions.

The interior looks like poo. Ford is just KILLING the other domestics in that department these days.

You're crazy.

One of the worst front overhangs on the market right now. It also looks awkward and narrow from the back.

Ill say. My bumper has no paint. Soon the plastic will rust out.

The Dart's interior is really bad.  It kind of looks like an old Pontiac.

Not even close.  I owned a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire,  and the Dart's interior is lightyears better.  Have you even been in a Pontiac?

My friend had a Grand Prix in high school.  I said kind of.  Clearly not as bad.

How about not even comparable.   Fit and finish and materials in the Dart are much much better.   The design is more pleasing too.

Maybe it's an unflattering photo, but that was what it reminded me of.  I can't say anything about materials and fit and finish though.

I just think you guys are unfairly dismissing the Dart.  I think it looks pretty good.  Not the best, but pretty good.

Completely disagree.

And you guys do realize the Dodge Dart was a Ward's Ten Best interior this year...?  It's pretty much unmatched in content per $ in its segment.

Ford's new interiors look and feel fantastic and are probably industry bests in that regard, but their functionality is not good.  Taurus and Explorer are cramped for how big they are outside, the Fiesta and Focus are busy and button laden, and the Fusion almost got everything right.  Still not as good as it could be, but pretty good nonetheless.

MrH

They're boring expanses of black, with shitty looking silver trim pieces trying to accent it.  Combine that with the most unintuitive UI out...ughhh.  The Explorer's interior felt like I was just staring at a Darth Vader helmet

Just to be clear, I'm not dismissing the Dart.  Frankly, I don't even know if that's competitive for the class or not.  I think the Dart's fine.  Great commercials.

My experience from working in the field is that cars have improved in quality seemingly exponentially in the last 20 years.  Factor in the occasional 70s or 80s shitbox, and it's even more dramatic.  There's just no comparison.  I'd buy any Japanese, German, and some American cars built in the last decade and trust its ability to run like a top to 250,000mi or more.  There are a few exceptions in there, but generally they're great.  And in the current decade, now that the Koreans and most Domestics are up to a higher level, I'd buy pretty much anything other than a Dodge and be stoked about it.

My Ram was absolutely trouble free for the three years I had it.  Why wouldn't you buy a Dodge?

When was the last itme you saw a car under 10 years old with rust through?  It used to be common, now you seldom see it.

Depends on what part of the country you are in. Back in Seattle you can find daily drivers that are 30-40 years old with no rust. In Chicago you can still find 5 year old cars missing their wheelwells.

The biggest cause of rust happening like that is that the metal behind those lips rarely gets cleaned.  People don't think about it when washing their cars.
