Is that a DeTomaso Pantera, a BMW Z1, and a pagoda SL?  Damn, is Grand Tour filming near you?

All correct.

I pulled into a gas station to fill up my car. At that moment only the Z1 and 230SL were there. It appears that the owners knew each other or simply chatted each other up about their cars. After I had filled up my car and paid, the Pantera pulled up. It appears that these were total strangers, yet their love for classic cars got them into a conversation.

Being on the verge of retiring, you may get into some hobbies that would involve transporting materials, etc. whereby a stylish and well appointed mid-size SUV would be handy.

A possible option...

Guaranteed, fun to drive.

Another good option, but it doesn't tickle my heartstrings like the Alfa does.

Mid size CUVs seem like oversized hatchbacks. I mean that as a compliment.

They basically are.  A comfortable vehicle for those over 5' 10".

How about that little Mercedes SUV that produces something ungodly like 300hp/L?

Get both. The Alfa for flair and Italian style, and the Porsche for cold German efficiency, & to cruise the streets looking for the bits that fell off the Alfa.

I test drove an Audi A6 with a sport package and I am probably going to buy it.

Be adventurous, test drive a few more brands, Jaguar XE, XF, F-Pace, Alfa Giulia, Stelvio...

You might be surprised.

Some dealers are doing no-contact test drives. They'll bring a car to you.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I may test drive the Jag if it's easy enough to do that.  But Audi is a low risk option for me.  I've owned one for a long time now and had no problems with it.

Low risk isn't much fun.  Time to live a little dangerously now.  Try the Alfa, you'll love it.

Initially the salesman suggested I try the 4 and the 6 cylinder.  But then later he said, "After talking to you for a bit, I suggest you only try the 6 cylinder.  You won't be happy with the 4."

Enjoy driving more than 4 cyls while you can. On one side, Chinese market regs are turning all ICE cars into turbo 1998cc four bangers. On the other side, EVs are gobbling up the luxury market.

I'm getting the 6.  I even considered the 8 but that's too much.  I haven't owned an 8 cylinder since 1982.

Ah, when V8s were good!

I was hoping it wasn't going to be one of those late 70's smogged wonders that made 80hp.

They were, indeed, wonderful. All the V8 sounds and fuel economy, with none of the power!
