Yeah; why they do that?

I'd figure the Europeans were immune from the 85 MPH speedostupidity.

The best speedos have no numbers after 85, but continue with marks every 10 ... so you have to do math n stuff.

My mom replaced her 3 wagon with an X1. I tried to convince her to bail on that thing and get a CRV.

I dunno, the issue with gasoline getting into the oil is pretty worrisome. IIRC Honda's fix is "oil changes are free, get them twice as often please."

I don't think the X1 is a bad car. I think the X1 is head over heels better than the old one.

The GLA....? not so much.

12,000 RPM

I have to play devil's advocate.... it's a very mixed bag

Yes similarly equipped there's like a $10K MSRP difference.... but on the skreet a top of the line RAV4 Hybrid basically costs like $2-3K less than a simlarly equipped X1. And that's the current RAV4 model; I'm sure the gap will close even further with the new baby 4Runner.

At that point it's a much less obvious decision. You're basically choosing between space and reliability or HP, handling, premium touches like the pano moonroof. Resale isn't even straightforward- I'm sure it's much better for the person who buys their X1 at a 25% discount.

Current Q3 is shit but the next one is set to right the sins of its forebearer. GLA remains a POS for the time being. The calculus is in constant evolution.... you really have to look.

Still using my girlfriends turbo4 RDX and I won't lie- this thing has been growing on me. Downsides are thirst and dimwitted 5AT, and also the stupidest Bluetooth integration system I've ever used, but it's a seriously fun car to drive for what it is

That was a pretty quick trip.  How long were you actually in Florida, vs. the time you spent driving there?

A long drive for a short stay.  How did you and your dad split the driving?  50/50, or did one of you do more?

We pretty much split tanks of gas so every 380-420 miles or so.  We also had the dog with us so we stopped every now and then to walk him around.

I did triple digits for miles through Georgia and he was cool with it.  He was actually much less patient than I was on the road.

Reminds me of my Grandpa. They had a cabin up on the French River (Outside of Sudbury, Ontario), and he drove a '69 Toronado which we packed everything including an 8 HP outboard motor into, and he just flew up there, convinced that he could just buy his way out of any ticket in Canada.

He got passed exactly once- by a Supra (this was in '86 or so, I clearly remember the "Supra" in black outline letter on the white spoiler). He asked what kind of car it was, I told him it was a Toyota. Well, he didn't take well to being passed by a Japanese car. We never saw the Supra again, but it sure as hell wasn't for lack of trying.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I spent a month there and thought it was a good place to live. Plus it's close to Boston without the traffic and cost. It's my top choice for residency

I do not recommend going over 85 in GA. It's an extra $200 on top of local fines if you're ticketed. Glad it went well for you though lol
