Today, I had to test drive a 2018 GMC Terrain with the 2.0 Ecotec. I was surprised at how quick it was. Turns out it is now turbocharged to 252 HP. Way better than the last generation Equinox, but still kind of meh.

The test also broke things up into just voice commands and just touchscreen controls. Voice-command operation was slightly better, but IAM Roadsmart's findings suggest both ways were still mighty distracting.

Says a lot about multi-tasking.  Probably can't walk and chew gum at the same time either.

It's a shame that humans are given an amazing brain and some don't bother to ever use it.

Supposedly the big hardware difference is a "smart" (not quite sure what they mean by that exactly) filter to avoid false positives from all the lane-keeping and emergency braking radars out on the road (which have made traditional radar detectors basically useless).

They're still facing an uphill battle against things like Waze, which are incredibly effective.

Filter probably looks at doppler shift to determine if the source is moving or not.  I also would assume that radar speed guns are operating at a different frequency from smart cruise radars, else they would be useless, so they may also be filtering bands designated for civilian use and only looking at those used by LE.

I reset some of the filters (Per Valentine recommendations) on my V1 a few years ago! Since then I rarely get any false alarms! Before that my X Band alerts were constantly triggered by Blind Spot monitors! As far as the new unit I won't be upgrading anytime soon! At $500 (or $380 with my V1 trade in) I'm not sure it's that much better than my old unit.

That's one possibility. I'm just saying Valentine has been sort of closed lipped about what's actually happening.

Yup! And if you pair it to your cell phone it'll show you what Frequency the V1 is alerting to.
