How can they make this car so light when the fairly compact F-type weighs over 3800 lbs?  They need to put some of that weight-loss mojo into the F-type.

I don't know, I like it a lot. Brings some style and something different to the class.

This is probably the most generic looking sedan ever. There's no stylistic reason to buy this over any other car in the class.

Looks really good to me

Unfortunately, I don't think they can compete on anything other than design. Mercedes and BMW have them beat in this segment when it comes to dynamics.

While I think you're right in that this thing isn't going to sell that well, I hope you're wrong. And you're certainly wrong about the no stylistic reason thing. I can think of one:

It's the best looking car in its class by a decent margin.

How can you say that when it hasn't even been driven yet?

They don't have the budget or volume to get on that level. Also, based on everything else they make, I kind of doubt this will somehow be drastically more competitive than anything else they make.

Of course, I'd love to see them prove me wrong. The car looks great.

Looks classy.

I like the interior, classy and understated.  None of that gee-whiz weird shapes and angles crap.

I'd argue they hit a home run with the F-type on that budget and volume.

Great looking car that sounds great, no doubt. But it gets murdered by the 911 dynamically.

Beats me.  By home run I was talking about the vehicle dynamics they achieved given their resources, not their sales volume.

Edit:

They've sold 2,600 January through July in 2014

Interesting sales chart

SVT666

This is easily the best looking car in its class. The interior looks like it belongs in a Kia though.

I expect the F-Type also sells really well in Britain, as will this one. And it looks sharp enough to do pretty well here, too, as long as it's at least competitive on price and dynamics.

JLR hasn't had any recent products that seemed really compromised by a lack of budget, with the Range Rovers in particular being as opulent and successful as ever, and incorporating lots of weight reduction measures.

The back is really ugly.
I love everything else about the exterior, but you're right. The back looks strange in those photos. I didn't like the new F Type in photos much though and it's now one of my favorite looking cars on the road.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Raza

Jag sedans just don't look like Jags anymore.  That said, this is a damn good looking car, even if it looks like it could wear a Lexus badge (well, not anymore, with their Predator grilles).  This has got to be up there with the A4 as the best looking car in class.

Also, before anyone drives it and we decide it won't drive well, let's not forget that when the XF came out it was given a lot of praise for its dynamics and Clarkson preferred the XF-R to the M5 at the time.

I assume no stick will be available, so I won't buy one, but if they do an AWD performance model, I could see my brother replacing his S4 with one.

Why am I not surprised at the comments on here.

MrH knows that a Jag is not dynamically as good as Mercedes, even though I bet he's never driven a Jag XF, which according to those picky blighters at Autocar (and for once I agree with them) is a better car than any of the German trio.

Let's be honest, the new C Class has not exactly wowed everyone, failing to get close to the 3 Series in the (UK) comparison tests, so it is only really the BMW that Jag needs to equal or beat.

And 206 does not like its appearance.......... well, we're all entitled to our opinions, of course, but the current trend for vulgar brash styling with more scoops, scallops and vents all over the place (like an 8 year old drawing a car on the back of an envelope as Autocar said of one recent culprit, and no, it was not the utterly hideous Lexus NX!) is not to all tastes. Certainly not to mine. There have been very few cars in recent years that you could call anything other than over-styled, awkward, or just plain brash. Certainly not "beautiful" in any accepted sense of the word.

I think the XE looks absolutely fantastic both outside and in.

Knowing what Mike Cross and his team have done to make recent Jags drive well, you can be sure that it will be pretty damn good to drive.

And Jaguar has consistently outscored BMW and Merc and Audi in JD Power surveys in the UK, so the ownership experience should be pretty good, too.

It is on the short list of cars to replace my S5 Sportback in 2016, along with the Maserati Ghibli. About the only car that might also make it there is the Alfa Giulia if it is available in time (looking doubtful).

12,000 RPM

F-Type accounts for 20% of Jag's volume this year and helped Jag sell 33% more (~4000) cars, in the US at least.

I will give my thoughts on this in a bit.

For those who like clean, taut lines, the XE is very appealing.  That is the hallmark of its namesake.

Sexy as always, that can't be the only interior color combo though.

2o6 don't try inflict your appallingly bad taste on Jaguar, it doesn't deserve it.
