Looks fantastic.

I bet the 64-horsepower engine is rev-happy and the turbo adds a nice punch to it. This car clearly is sporty and not underpowered.

Way back in the day I test drove a Smart Roadster with the turbocharged 82-horsepower  700cc 3-cylinder engine and that thing was quick (RMR layout).

No, it's going to be slow as shit.

Kei cars are limited to 85MPH, Im pretty sure

It'll probably feel nippy, but I don't expect the numbers to be very fast on paper.

Of course, for export markets they aren't constrained by Kei car limitations.  No reason they couldn't bore or stroke that motor to a larger displacement and up the power.  A 120 HP 1-liter triple in a < 1 ton car will be reasonably lively.

I think they have plans to; I've heard rumors about a wider, longer version with the Fit's 1.3L.

From what I read, export cars will be a 1 litre S1000, rated at 140 hp.

I'm not sure if Honda has a 1.0L, but nonetheless Thats cool.

(The Fit's 1.5L would be about that output)

Too bad itll likely never see these shores.

What is "slow" to you? 0-60 in 6 seconds?

Maybe the point of this car is enjoyable and fun-inducing handling.

The Mazda Miata for example isn't the fastest car out there but AFAIK they are fun to drive because of the balanced handling and RWD layout. CarSpinners just gush over it even though it's literally slower than a V6 Camry AFAIK.

If this thing gets to 60 in 6 seconds, I'll light my car on fire and buy this.

Jalopnik just put out an article:

http://jalopnik.com/hondas-mid-engine-s660-baby-roadster-looks-like-a-lot-o-1694532617

Some points:

The possible Euro version is an S1000 with 127 hp.

The Japanese price is under 2 million yen, or $16,700 US.

Someone pointed out, if they can sell the shitbox Smart ForTwo here, why not this.  :golfclap:

The blue one in the article...

This car will be 0-60 in probably around 18 seconds.

Hmmm... the 1991 Honda Beat (66 hp) was tested at 13 seconds, while the 1994 Suzuki Cappuccino (64 hp) was tested at 8 seconds, 0-62 mph.

Payman

The ergonomics... wheel to shifter etc, looks perfect.

I'm almost positive it'll be much quicker than that. This is 2015, not 1993.  :ohyeah:

He's joking. I'd guess in the 9 second range.

Because of top speed limitations, these cars are usually geared really short.

The Cappuccino had a turbocharged engine while the Beat was NA.  The Suzuki therefore had a much fatter powerband (~70 lb-ft of torque vs 44 lb-ft)

Seems like it'd be difficult to steer with the wheel in the passenger seat.

I saw a one-armed dude riding a crotch rocket last week. And he wasn't going slow... If he can do that, then you can drive this car.

... Nissan needs to use these shocks on the GT-R.  It would be like the Incredible Hulk wielding Thor's hammer.... unstoppable.

Track test video... in Japanese. It pulls 1.2 G in the corners. This car is the spiritual successor to the original CRX.

To the CRX? How?

The original was roughly the same size, around 1850 lbs, and about the same power. And it became a driving icon.

CRX was a FE FWD hatchback.  This is a ME RWD vert.  The only thing in common is weight.

{sigh} ok fine. Forget I suggested it.

It was also 30 years ago - back then, 0-60 in 10 seconds was fast.

The CRX is a real car (in size). The S660 is a Kei Car....

It's the direct successor to the Beat.

The S660 is like 130" long. It's like over a foot shorter than the CRX...
