I wish we had this segment here, in the $12,000-$15,000 range. I'd be all over this. Rear engine, RWD, 1850 lbs.

2o6

Needs at least 30 more HP.

I've heard Honda is working on a scaled up, wider version with probably the Earth Dreams 1.3L in it (110HP)

But this car is shockingly petite, and 64 HP isn't enough

SVT666

I'm surprised you don't love it as is 2o6.

64hp is pathetic. I don't care how small and light it is.

FlatBlackCaddy

They should make a bigger version and sell it here.  Honda needs some legitimate performance cars in there lineup.

2o6

It's a Kei Car, so it's limited in output.

I wonder how hard a 175 hp Fireblade swap would be.

Why is this in Fast Lane?

Power/weight is similar to an MG Midget.  Not a quick car by any means, but the engine size and output is the result of Kei car class restrictions.  I'd love to see Honda make a non-Kei compliant version with more motor.  Bump the displacement of the triple up to a liter and boost it to ~115 hp and you'd have a pretty fun car.

Looks like there's going to be an S1000 (1000cc turbo, 140 hp) for the export market (Australia, NZ, etc).

Mainstreamers.  It's an econobox.

Xer0

I love the way this thing looks and I'm glad Honda went with the S designation rather than Beat or whatever the old one was called.  I'd love to see a higher spec S1000 that I've heard rumors about.

Nothing sporty about 64hp.

All of these had less than 70 hp (no idea what SAE net is, they were from the days when everyone rated SAE Gross).

It's also mid engine, RWD, manual trans, open top.

It's just limited to 64hp for class restrictions.

Also, I'm pretty sure entry level Caterhams use 660cc engines (from some Suzuki Kei car I think) and those are still sports cars.

Yeah, the Seven 160. I love that one because it has the classic Seven style with steelies, and starts at 15,995 British pounds.

My '73 Karmann Ghia was something like 55 hp, but it was a blast to drive. Powerslides at 40 mph, you could drive it at 9/10ths at legal speeds, unlike modern powerful sportscars where you'll never get more than 5/10ths of its performance on public roads.
