Updated 2016 Altima

The new exterior is a more subdued version of the Maxima/Murano style, and it works better to my eye than the bland outgoing model. The dashboard is also new, but I hadn't even noticed because it's just a different flavor of ordinary. Nissan also promised suspension changes and more sound deadening; no changes to the engines.

Man, the QR25DE is old as dirt. Why are they still using that POS?

I think that looks really sharp. Much better than the current model or the new Maxima.

Dude it's a fuckin Altima, that's the point. Besides, even if they designed it to be a 250 GTO clone, the fact that it sells in the numbers it does means that it'll inevitably look generic at some point

The old car was dreary as well.

My inlaws picked us up in one Sunday night (SFIL is a car salesman). Interior was nice but didn't feel as roomy as the exterior would suggest. I bet it's not much roomier inside than a significantly cheaper Sentra

With 4 adults on board, it's not really any roomier.  The Sentra actually as a bit more rear legroom (but less front, so it all equals out).  Add a 5th passenger and the extra width, and associated space, of the Altima will be readily apparent.

Though for all its added length vs the Sentra, it really doesn't offer an equivalent gain in lengthwise passenger space or trunk space.  There's maybe .25 cu. ft. difference in trunk space between the two cars and only an inch more cumulative legroom for the Altima, despite 3" more wheelbase and 9" more total length.  My guess is some of it, perhaps most of it, goes towards a larger engine bay since the Altima needs to house the V6, which isn't a particularly compact motor, while the Sentra only has to accommodate the fairly compact MR series 4-banger.

That's not even a full sentence you edited it down to, not conveying the whole thought. If I say "jump up your own ass and die", it doesn't have the same meaning if you stop reading after "jump up".

The Versa is also super-roomy for four, achieved by caring zero about how the car looks. For a time, Nissans' legroom (still, for four) almost went dead backward: Versa > Sentra > Altima > Maxima.

But yes, like you said, you can really feel the Altima's advantage either with a fifth passenger or with a big person in the front seat. Plus the Sentra and Versa are pretty weakly powered even with no passengers, so even if you can fill them up with adults, that probably works best while the cars are parked.

I edited out the word 'eventually' for 'at some point' because it sounded better. I don't understand your point

The interior does kind of have a mid 2000s Dodge or Chevy look to it...

This is drives me absolutely nuts. As exterior size scales, so should interior size. If it doesn't, it's shitty packaging.

I wonder if the performance gain from the MR to the QR is even worth it with the Altima's added weight.

U wouldnt say this if u spent time in a 2005 Altima. Current one is like a Rolls Royce by comparison. Plus aside from the Mazda 6 and Fusion (which cost more) all the other cars in this class are not much better.

These are commodity cars; lets not judge them like luxury goods.

I like newer Nissan interiors. I've got a couple newer Maximas I detail every year...I like driving them.

I don't know, midsize or large sedans "feel" so much better on the highway than compacts even if the interior legroom/headroom, etc is the same size or even smaller.  Totally different driver and even more so passenger experience.  Ride and isolation are so much better.  I notice this most when I get in my brother in law's MB E class as a passenger.  I feel like I've entered a bank vault and feel like taking a nap.

Relating to this Altima, I'm sure it's a much better ride than a Sentra even if it has equal or less passenger space.

The interior looks clean and simple to me. I swear, you guys want it both ways. "Oh we hate touch screens, bring back buttons." "Oh those buttons make it look sooo old".

I'd much rather have that interior than some of the competition with two different screens and no buttons.

You should really hate most midsized cars, then. The Sentra/Versa are packaged very well, and the Altima is pretty average/par for the class.

You can have style and buttons! Certainly this is better than an ergonomic nightmare, I agree, especially in a family sedan. But having sensible ergonomics doesn't preclude some sort of design flair.

Rear legroom is definitely on the low end for the class. Better than a Malibu or 200, but clearly behind Camry, Accord, or even Fusion.

Wow on that interior - sorta reminds of my '05 Accord (MY2003 design) and if I'm honest it's not as upscale.

CALL_911

I still think the '05-'07 Accord had the best styled interior of any car in its class until the new Mazda6 came out.
