Okay you ignorant fucks. Let me Google that for you.
See, I'm not even going to explain anything myself, because then I'll just be accused of making shit up. Shortly after, the Ignorant Fuck Bandwagon will overload and break an axle.
Oh, but if I don't explain it, it must be because I don't know...? Too late, asshole. I already have, and I'm not doing it again. If you don't believe anything on the internet, I will tell you that coil spring cutting predates the internet by a fuck ton, so feel free to ask your local mechanic who is over the age of 50.

There is no telling how basically ignorant some of you blowhards are, so here is a ton more random, but essential shit that you need to understand before anyone will give a fuck about you:

Formula to Calculate Rate:

Until you have a single fucking clue what the hell you are talking about, dont even fucking post.

Cutting coils is for fools. I make my own out of recycled rebar and a pipe bender.

Eye of the Tiger

Look what happens to every coil spring when it is made at the factory:

https://youtu.be/z8OohfgDG84

When the winding is complete, the spring is CUT. This is a brand new spring, and it is a CUT spring.
In fact, every coil spring must be CUT, or it would be infinitesimally long. All you ignorant fucks are.riding on CUT coil springs.

My springs were machined out of a solid billet of German spring steel.

All of this cutting business sounds like a risky way to lower your vehicle. You get what you pay for. The abrasive cutoff wheel induces stress in the spring, making it softer and more brittle.

You'll be bouncing off of the bump stops until your spring cracks in half and you roll over and die. When you're pinned in your vehicle upside down and on fire, taking in your last breath, you'll wish you had listened to me and paid the extra money for billet steel springs.

Man, are you really taking something Benz said about mechanical stuff seriously; the guy who didnt know a fast blinker meant a burned out bulb in that exact thread?

Be careful, or I'll make my four year old daughter sing "Let it Go" to you.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I think you mean infinitely, not infinitesimally. Beside which, the stock going into the winder isn't going to be infinitely long...

Why is the eutectic line on the phase diagram shown at 738 degrees instead of 727?

Also, thanks to your pictogrammaticals there, i now know I have a dearth of wood planers and should not attempt to cut coil springs until I rectify that situation.

I have one, it was my grandfather's. I may have used it once.

You should try building more door jambs.

In one of the suspension design/setup books I have there is a whole section on spring cutting. However they also talk about spring dynos and other stuff with relation to the cutting process, I also think there was a heating step in there too. Either way, it was a bit more complex then some kid in his garage with a Sawzall trying to slam his civic.

GoCougs

Why not just get shorter springs?

There are so many wood planers. You need like ten just to built a shelf.

Raze it to the ground.

(Which I thought was a fucked up statement the first time I heard it because I was hearing it and not reading it and not knowing what the word "raze" was...cool story, huh?)
