Launched last night - very nice - some good ideas. They are still losing money.

- looks good from the front

- otherwise looks like a Minivan

- falcon doors are stupid

- why is the dashboard the same as the model S?

- product unveil was more like a tech demo rather than a car release

I'm on my phone, sorry for not posting pictures

How'd we do this at the same time? Dammit

I think the fascia looks good, but the falcon doors are stupid. And the proportions are super MPV like. And the dashboard is straight from the Model S, which means it's stupid. Also the range on the smaller batteries is going to be kinda bad

From the article:
QuoteIn one of the cleverest bits of engineering in the entire Model X, the sun visors rest along the A-pillars, above the windows. They fold for a sleek profile when docked, clicking into place with magnets. Extend the sun visor over the windshield, and those same magnets lock the visor to the rear-view mirror, which is mounted smack in the middle of the glass.

It is "definitely the most complex sun visor in history," Musk told reporters Tuesday.

It was an awkward problem, but Tesla found a solution. And that's the story of the Model X. Musk strived so hard to make the Model X different that it took years to bring his brainchild to market. If you ask him, he will concede: maybe it didn't need to be so different.

"In retrospect, we would not have done so much in the way of features and functionality for the X," Musk said. "People are going to get an incredible car that does so many things that no other car does, but it didn't need to do quite as many things."

"Now that it's done," he added, "I think anyone who buys it is going to love it."

His ego and tech-style of marketing is so frustrating and annoying to me. Nothing on this car design wise is revolutionary in the design world. those doors aren't a new idea. That windshield is a stupid idea.

The reason why they're not implemented is cause they're stupid.

It looks like a Ssangyong Actyon and an Tall 5GT in profile.

I wonder how much body rigidity is lost between that big ass windshield and the super heavy, super stupid doors?

Why are you hating so much? Half the posts in this thread are yours and lets be real, you're not in the target  demographic and will never own one anyways.

I've seen a couple in person (including a white one today). Initially I thought it looked really bland but it's growing on me.

Sorry I should have put the OP in the Big Guys board.

Bottom line to me with these is that they are still toys for wealthy owners, subsidized by the proletariat.

It's a dumb design. Emperors new clothes. This is a Silicon Valley baby so u have Yay Area bias. It's ugly, its design features are tacky and unnecessary, and it's overpriced.

LOL I don't have any "Yay Area" () bias. I don't like Tesla. I don't like electric cars. However, when clicking on this thread and seeing 4 posts by Kevin, all saying the same thing about how this thing sucks, it just seems very repetitive and unnecessary.

And FWIW, I think they're asking for trouble by pricing it so out of reach of most people.

I can move it if you like -- luxury crossovers split the difference so evenly.

To the other point, they're luxury for now, but having them succeed on the mass market will help the technology improve and come down in price. The first Tesla, the roadster, was even more expensive and even less useful. EV tech has been improving dramatically each year, thanks largely to government incentives that make them viable in the short term.

Opel had that years ago.

Edit: Oh, okay you mean the sun visor specifically.

The full article does indeed give credit to Opel.

I saw one a couple weeks ago at the Computer History Museum!

I thought, "wow, the Model S is puffier looking than I thought!"

Then I realized it was the X. The body style is definitely too derivative of the S. The S is a tough act to follow but I think they could've done a lot to make their CUV look more futuristic.

Looks frumpy and the doors are  for an SUV (i.e., carrying stuff on top). The Model S isn't so afflicted, and it's still a money loser.

0.24Cd is RIDICULOUSLY low, though.

Recommending that people go skiing with this car is irresponsible. It has no ground clearance! (And how *could* it have ground clearance, if the drag is so low?)

Model S is a better "SUV" than the Model X 'cause you can actually put skis, bikes or a carrier on top. The margin of improvement in 3rd row space is a non-issue for most.

The answer?  A lot.  When they're open at least.  When they're closed it's fine.  But there were issues about that exact topic.
