Learn all kinds of interesting things  about how younger guys interact on here. Also, don't think I'd put anything called  "turd pro" on my truck. Or at least not the window sticker that comes in the box.

In typical Hyundai fashion, ride quality was garbage, steering tuning was really bad, suspension geometry caused it to wander everywhere and pull hard with the road crown, and the seats weren't comfortable.

And you think the TuRD Pro suspension/wheels/tires won't get you there?

Naw. TRD Pro stuff is a little more floaty than stock, but it's solid.

I feel like your 2Runner (do you ever use all 4? ) will be about as floaty and smooth as our old Grand Marquis was. Which is to say...a beautiful cruiser.

I was 4x4ing it all over the place today :praise:

Highway was a mess. Took icy back roads to that MBA info meeting today. Unplowed icy neighborhood roads the whole way.

For real though, I'd be fine without 4x4 on packed snow, but I turn mine on for packed snow because why not? I dunno about your Toyotas, but on the Explorer it's just a click of a button to switch from 4x4 Auto to 4x4 Full.

MrH

I have an electronically actuated transfer case. No torsen center diff though, so either 2x4 or 4x4

Does that mean you have to stop to switch into 4x4? I only have to stop to switch from 4x4 High to 4x4 Low. I'd probably use 4x4 a lot less if I had to stop to change.

I go everywhere in 4WD now...

No, you can switch from 2x4 to 4x4 Hi on the move. Have to stop to get into 4x4 Lo though. I just don't have a 4x4 auto setting like you have. Basically means the center diff is some sort of torsen setup usually. Limited 4Runners have that. I wish mine did, but I hate the way the limiteds look. And they're really expensive too.

I use 4x4 when I have to. If you have to use 4x4 on hardpack roads, you're an impatient n00b.  I'm not gonna leave my 4x4 on for the 5 months a year I see hardpack. :wtf:

Sry u moved to Colorado to get less snow than me.

Actually, no, I've experienced the Auto 4x4 on those Explorers, so I know why you'd use Full 4x4. I haaaaated the auto 4x4 on our '02.  It just felt like torture to the tranny and transfer case. I see your point.

BimmerM3

I actually wish I could lock it into 2x4 for easier sideways action.

For real. My parents' '02 Sploder drove me nuts for that very reason. I figured it was better to have it fully engaged than to have the Auto function do whatever the hell it was doing to the trans.  Just felt like twitchy torture for it.

After driving that vehicle for a winter, I know I will never want another vehicle with auto 4x4 again. Switchable or bust.

There's a kit for the Land Cruiser to do that, but it ain't cheap.

Well, that's easy.

No, to disconnect the front drive shaft.

Ah.  I had that issue in Bravvy.  SmartTrak wasn't working so I only had 2WD because the motor wouldn't engage 4WD.  I got stuck once. ...once.

Well, at least for driving on snowy/icy roads, on-demand/permanent 4WD (such as the sophisticated systems like that from Infiniti or Audi) are IME superior to conventional fixed/locked 4WD. The ability to direct power front and rear, and sometimes left to right, provides much better traction and performance, esp. when combined with modern stability control. Locked 4WD is going to be better when things get deep, bumpy and slow (which generally isn't what you'll find on roads).

Hell yeah I'm impatient.  If it's slippery out, I want to blast through the snow

When it snows bad, I just lock the center diff and floor it and kick up snow everywhere.  4Runner life is great.

Welp. Came out to the car this morning. Total flat tire.

Didn't want to pay to potentially pay for a new tire, so I'm going to swap on the spare. Forced my hand to order news wheels and tires.

Just bought the black TRD Pro wheels. Once they get in I'll get tires and everything.
